you may just have a bad relay. with the power removed ..(unpluged)
remove the relay cover ( on the side of the compressor)

remove overload and relay

check relay for 4-5 ohms
check overload (if open it is bad)

SOURCE: Fridge keeps on freezing everything inside of it

This refrigerator only has one thermostat located in the fresh food compartment it is designed to activate the sealed system (cooling) until it reaches approximately 37 deg f in the fresh food compartment. The damper controls how fast the cold air can move from the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment. Allowing you to control the temp in the freezer by controlling the flow of cold air to the thermostat.

You have one of two problems.
#1 your thermostat is no longer opening when it achieves set temp. fix = replace thermostat pn 61005798 $35
#2 your damper arm or assemblie has broken. Fix = Replace damper or broken arm and actuator.
damper assembly pn12001377 $44
damper actuator pn 61002000 $2
damper arm pn 61001999 $2

SOURCE: My Magic Chef mini fridge temperature trouble

That can be very difficult to do with a mini refrigerator. There is just not enough separation between the freezer and the refrigerator.

You will likely just have to find a compromise setting and accept the results.

Magic chef freezer model mcuf88w won't freeze

When you thawed it, did you remove ice from it using a metal object. That may have damaged the coils when would allow freon to leak out. This is too coincidental to be a problem itself with the compressor. The t'stat might be the problem. Try turning it off at the t'stat for a few minutes, then turn back on to the normal setting. Keep door closed for 30 minutes and check the inside and see if the walls are freezing. If not, you may have a compressor problem, or t'stat, or relay switch problem.

What would cause the inside top of a Magic Chef refrigerator model RBK21K-2A to freeze up and not keep items in the refrigerator compartment cold (temp doesn't drop below high 40s)?

lack of sufficient air flow across the evaporator coils, clogged condensate drain, too much humid air (door open too much, bad seals, etc.), low refrigerant.
