Question about Computers & Internet
From what I understand, the computer is running some flavor of Linux. You can either learn how to use Linux of install a version of Windows. You must know more about the original software that was installed (Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8). You need to buy a licensed copy. Your Vista has already been installed on and activated for a specific computer, so it cannot legally be used on another computer.
Try Linux. Download a free distribution from the Internet (Ubuntu for example). Burn it on a CD. Configure your computer to boot from the CD-Rom. Run a demo of Linux (without installing) and see if it recognizes all your hardware. If it does you might decide to switch to Linux.

SOURCE: password recovery
If the password window has come for first time then don't enter any password. Leave the password window blank. In the user name enter Administrator and log on. If this does not help enter administrator or admin in password field. But this should be second option.
My suggestion is that you downgrade from Window Vista to Window XP as till date Windows Vista has lot of bugs relating to security issues.I myself have done that.

If you remember the admin password then you can login with a different credential (i.e. admin credential). Then you can open the finger print application and there is an option to see your old password.

For these situations, I recommend:
1. Think hard, was the password tied to something you'd remember by going over common things in your life? Names of family member or important dates that only you would know are common.
2. Try a password recovery program - http://www.recoverlostpassword.com
3. The least desirable option is reinstalling Vista from the disc.
