Good day, I am going to get strait to the fault from experience.Once the timer is activated, it automatically triggers an on board electronic relay that in turn switches on all the other components to begin the cooking process. If none of those components all at once do not work, but the timer works, then I am sure that it can possibly be the on board relay that is not working. ON most machines the relay is a small component that can be replaced individually without replacing the entire PC board. Another possibility is that the transformer Which supplies two separate voltages (One low voltage for digital function and higher voltage for mechanical and heating function) has blown on the high supply voltage line only, that is why the timer will work without the other components functioning. If your machine is not older than 2yrs then the first analysis will most likely be correct. But if it is older than that, then the last analysis will be the one to ponder. Another possibility though, is to check the door switching functions, because these can also be a problem. The best is though, to take it to a repair man and save yourself a lot of time and frustration, as I would not recommend anyone that does not have any knowledgeable background of microwaves to tamper inside those machines as they are a possible health hazard and only experienced technicians know how to handle them safely.
Hope my advice will be of help
Have a nice day and good luck.

Follow this steps and fix it.God bless you

  1. Inspect the power cordUnplug the power cord and check for voltage at the outlet. Also inspect for damage, shorts, or burn marks that can be a possible safety hazard.
  2. Bad door switchIf your microwave does not work at all and you know everything is plugged in properly and the outlet is functioning, then also check the door hooks and the door release button. Using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check your terminals. When your microwave door is closed you should have a reading of zero. Once the door is open the reading should change to infinity. If these readings do not match up, replacement of the door switch is necessary.
  3. Blown fusesTo determine if your fuse has blown out, which may attribute to your microwave not running, you need to pull the fuse out using a pair of fuse pullers. Lay it down and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check both ends of the fuse in question. If you do not get a reading of zero, then you will need to replace the fuse.
  4. Bad fan motorLocate the fan and remove the leads. Again using the volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If an infinity reading is displayed, it means that the fan has gone bad and requires replacement.

Johnny Appleseed.. hello,

Thnx for all that good nutrition (X-ell-ent companion to cheese)!

Before we start...
An annoying little know trivia about micro-waves...
If used for EMPTY or for softening single pats of butter
they will soon self destruct (eat themselves... burn-out... fail).

When they do... their "micro-wave-generator" (magnetron) will
consume much more energy and cause the primary (most likely solitary fuse to operate)... "blown fuse".

Would that you had included a model number... (but alas).

Looking up your own model number on eBay or better GETTING your REAL PART NUMBER off of your original parts sheet will allow you to shop for the VERY BEST PRICE.

Sears has an excellent reference library... but if you want the same part you can get everywhere else for the HIGHEST price
SEARs ($$$$) is your place... (3 estimates... always!).

Don't forget to get that SPARE FUSE...!

Happy hunting.

MICRO DOES'NT HEAT

First, check to make sure that the door is closing and latching fully and that there is nothing jamming any of those mechanisms. There are safety devices that keep microwaves from turning on if they think the door is open/ajar.

If the door is fine and the rest of the functions (timer, etc.) are behaving, it's probably a busted magnetron. That's the part that actually emits the waves that do the heating. It's a part that can be replaced, but probably cheaper to get a new microwave.

Try2910227 serial ywmh2205xvb-0 model arcing on the back corner were the rack sits.Is there a way to repair this seen is the unit was purchaced in June of 2011.

Yes, take the rack out and recycle it. I do not know why these micro-wave company put racks in the micro wave ovens. You get some insulation on the inside the micro flaking off next the rack.

The mega-tron tube is a very high energy transmitter. The energy will come out of the top inside the micro wave oven in a wave guide. Micro wave energy that generation by the tube is high frequency into Gega Hertz. You have a metal tray in side the micro wave acts like a big capacitor it stores energy in form of heat the next you know it look like Marconi is putting on a lighting display.

Leave the wire tie on a loft of bread and put in you micro wave oven to defrost. The next thing you might see is a load bread burning, instant toast. ----The use of micro wave were invented by the British before WWII. The mega tron tube generation very high frequency radio wave and these wave struck an object 100 miles away some of this beam energy would balance back to a receiver-----You have Radar.... I wish you and your family well being and be careful of micro wave ovens it can burn from inside out. GB you...stewbison

My Emerson microwave is about 2 years old. I washed it just like I do every week and the power went out on it.

you mean it want power up or want work when you press the star buttom?
1. check the fuse if no power.

2. If it doesn't work when closing the door after setting timer it is the micro switch that the metal lach hits when the door close.

3. unpluge the micro wave unscew the scews to the cover of the microwave remove the cover. up front by the door you will see the micro switch maybe (brown,black,white,red/white ) what ever color it is disconet it take it to the hardware store buy a new one and replace it,themreasemble your micro wave.

Oven appears to function normally but doesn't cook at all.

With micro waves, this could be a number of things. They are hard to diagnose using this forum but I'll try. There are three things you can check. One being the thermal fuse. On some models, when it goes bad it put some things out. with others it puts every thing out.
if it's good, check the mag tube (Magnatron). Most of the time, it will be burned on the end if it's bad. tube. The last thing would be the fuse. It is made of ceramic and is a 20amp. It looks like a old round car fuse but it's not. It's made just for micro waves. Honestly, if the thermal fuse and the round 20 amp fuse is not the problem, you may be able to replace the micro wave cheaper than replacing the parts.
Thermal fuse $28.99.
Round 20amp fuse $1.53
Transformer $100.00.
Mag tube $87.00
Capacitor $45.00
Go to www.appliancepartspro.com and enter your model number. This will pull up every part in the micro wave and their prices. Then you will ba able to decide if you want to replace the parts. With yours being one that's built-in over the stove. These cost more and are worth putting more into. If I can help any more comment back and I'll do what I can.
