Question about Sewing Machines

Janome js1008 thread

My top thread keeps getting caught down where the bobbin is. It used to be apparent only after I prepared to snip the threads --now I can't sew at all before it jams. I have rewound bobbin, replaced thread and needle, checked tension on bobbin. Stumped.

Check to make sure the top thread isn't coming off the thread take up lever
also make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
make sure the needle is turned the correct way in the needle holder
also try a different bobbin
if none of these suggestions help, then it would be a good idea to have the machine checked for a timing problem

SOURCE: a horrible tangle

This is a bit late, could the bobbin case not be seated properly? You need to put it into place and then turn it clockwise until it seats soundly in the opening. Also, check for burrs...the needle may have left a rough mark on the plastic or metal in the bobbin area. A piece of batting, or even an old knee hi should snag on any rough areas.

SOURCE: will not pick up bobbin thread

Unusual for this machine. Check to be sure the needle is inserted with the flat side to the back of the machine. If it is, remove the needle plate, bobbin and bobbin case. Turn the hand wheel slowly toward you and see if the point of the hook is above or below the eye of the needle when the hook point is aligned behind the needle. If the eye is above the point of the hook the machine is out of time and best taken to qualified technician.

Why magnolia not picking up bobbin thread

Despite what the instruction book tells you, do not use the auto downup button to pick up the bobbin thread. Instead pull the wheel toward you and do it manually. Many times the bobbin thread gets caught and the machine halts if that auto down button is used.

I don't know your model but my Janome 6500 has a bobbin case held in by magnet on the underside and it will dislodge and move if there is a jam up. This then prevents it from forming stitches correctly. You need to lift out the bobbin case and put it back into position. With mine, when it has moved, the needle then strikes part of the case when it comes down. This often results in a burr in the plastic which then causes the thread to catch again even when the case is back in correct position.
There should be two marks, one on the case and one on the outside to align it to.

this is my bobbin case, and the cut away part on lower part of the image is the bit that goes into the machine away from you.

Mb4 false thread break

found the problem and unfortunately it is not something that i can fix and will have to take it to the repair shop on monday. The thread spring for that needle is broken and flopping around a little bit more than it should. From what i have been able to find on the web the up and down motion of the thread spring is used to sense if the thread is actually being pulled through the machine. this is how it detects if either the top thread or bobbin thread is broken. top thread not advancing and pulling the thread so that the thread spring goes up and down indicates one of the two is busted. Had a lot of responses to this on another forum with one person even sending pictures of what to look for and apparently this is a very common problem if the thread is not properly put through the eyelet of the thread spring and gets caught in the wire wrap of the thread spring. It just pulls it and breaks it. getting old and the eye sight is fading so just bought a lighted magnifying glass lamp to stop me from hurting my sweet little machine. So if you have one needle that is constantly giving you a false thread break indication this is where to look

thanks everybody for the rest of your suggestions. they were greatly appreciated

I am having a problem with my Janome Decor Excel 5018. It was working fine, until the bobbin thread won't gather with the top thread. And the top thread is binding up underneath the fabric. Kim

try a new needle

rethread the machine top & bobbin, that way you make sure the thread is not caught anywhere

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted in the machine

clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread & lint

always keep a long thread tail of 3 to 5 inches long, & keep the tails pulled back behind the needle
before sewing

if none of these things help the problem,, then it may need to be serviced

The top thread on my Janome 300E is getting caught in the bobbin. It starts bunching up on the back of the fabric that I am trying to embroider and it gets stuck. When I pull it off all the top thread is...

If your thread is getting caught underneath it's usually the UPPER thread is threaded wrong or not correctly through the tension discs. This can also happen if you're using Sticky Back stabilizer. Make sure you have a new needle in case there's a burr on the old one which can also cause this problem.

Hello,

Here are some things to check.

* Thread tension is too tight.
* Needle is bent or blunt.
* Needle is wrong size.
* Needle and thread does not match.
* Light pressure on presser foot.
* Incorrect setting of needle.

I hope this helps you.
