The cable ends can only go in one way. It won't go in backwards.

This is not a photo of your motherboard. Please use it as a general guide on what to look for on your motherboard. Most brand name systems will have the connector pins placef on the edge of the motherboard that is closest to where the wires coming from the power button are being routed. Pay attention to a set of pins that equal the amount of connection wires you have. When you see it, look around the pins and you will see etchings that describe which wire goes on what pin.
NOTE: Please remove the AC cord from the computer and that all keyboard, mouse, video, network cable and usb slots are disconnected and empty. Do not power the pc until you are certain you have matched the connectors to the right pins.

I need some type of wiring diagram or instructions on where an which terminals go where in my desktop,

You may find Docs here: https://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/default.aspx?modelId=1585 For future reference , take lots of pictures with a digital camera when doing a disassemble for the first time, in the future. Most of the time, NO ALL, the connectors will only fit in one connection. OR, take it to the "friend" for re-assemble.

Wiring diagram emachine T5246

OKAY!

There's what I'm talkin' about!

The model number.

The eMachines T5246 Desktop PC uses a
Foxconn/Winfast MCP61PM2MA motherboard.

[You stated Foxconn/Winfast. I got that. Just letting you know ]

Guess what?
So does the Gateway GT5476E Desktop PC,

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006200R/4006200Rnv.shtml

Click on - Product Views - in the list.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the Main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

If you need a pinout for the Front Panel header, click on -
S - Front Panel connector

The Top row is numbered EVEN. Starting from the Left side going to the Right;
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO pin 10.

[Colors going from Left to Right;
Orange/Yellow, Orange, Green, Green ]

The Bottom row is numbered ODD.
Starting from the Left side going to the Right;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

[Colors going from Left to Right;
Red/Yellow, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow ]

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is for 5 Volt power. This was used by the factory. It is N/C.
Not Connected.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED.
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

Any other connector info you need? Post in a Comment.

Specifications,

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009603/1009603sp2.shtml

1) Ram Memory:
Uses DDR2 Sdram at 667Megahertz. (667MHz)
Maximum TOTAL amount for the motherboard is 2GB. (2 GigaByte)
Maximum Amount for each Ram Memory slot is 1GB.

IF, you just have one ram memory module, make SURE it goes in ram memory slot 1. (DIMM 1)
That is the ram memory slot closest to the Processor.

Uses a SATA harddrive, and IDE (PATA) optical drive/s.

Does have two SATA connectors on the motherboard, so it can use ONE SATA optical drive.

On those SATA connectors on the motherboard,

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006200R/4006200Rmvr12.shtml

See the bottom SATA connector has SATA 1 next to it?
The SATA harddrive is supposed to be plugged into it.

However, the beauty of SATA is, NO MATTER WHAT SATA connector you plug into, BIOS will find that device.

Want to plug the SATA harddrive into SATA 1? No problem.
Want to plug the SATA optical drive(CD/DVD drive) into SATA 1?
No problem.

Want to plug the SATA harddrive into SATA 2? No problem.
Want to plug the SATA optical drive into SATA 2? No problem.

BIOS will find the device.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.\

I need a wiring diagram for a GM5664

Gateway Support > Gateway GM5664 Desktop PC > Downloads and Support Documents,

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2734

Click on the Support Documents tab
(Drivers, BIOS, Applications, Patches, Support Documents, etc)

Click on the blue - 1015004R - Support Documents

Click on Product Views in the list.
Click on Inside View

Go back to the main page
Click on Components
Go to the heading - Motherboards

4006254R - ECS MCP61PM-GM
(AM2 processor socket, MicroATX form factor motherboard)

Gateway Support is of no further help to us. Product Views for the motherboard does not work.

ECS motherboards use a 10-pin Front Panel header, if memory serves.
One pin is not used. (Not there. Number 10 pin)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GATEWAY-GM5664-MCP61PM-GM-MOTHERBOARD-4GB-Ram-AMD-Athlon-II-Dual-Core-3-0GHz-/360423046239?pt=Motherboards&hash=item53eae33c5f

On the above link scroll the page down, until you come to the enlarged photo of the motherboard, with - Click an Image to Enlarge - under it.
Click on the photo view all the way to the right, on the top photos.

The view shows the 4 orange SATA headers on the motherboard.
(The whitish 24-pin ATX main power cable connector, is shown at the front, with the blue IDE 40-pin header behind it)

To the left of the orange SATA headers (4) is the Front Panel header.
Black rectangular connector with 2 rows of pins.
One row has 4 pins, the other row has 5 pins.

[ The plastic front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of pins on the motherboard, that the wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header ]

Finding where number 1 pin is, is the problem.
Next to the number 1 pin, and silk-screened on the motherboard, is the number 1.

Looking at the rectangular connector (Front Panel header) you will note one pin is missing. This is where number 10 pin would be.

On the opposite side, and opposite end, is number 1 pin.

The pins are numbered Odd, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, on the same side.
(Or row)
The pins are numbered Even, 2, 4, 6, and 8, on the other side.
(Or row)

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
(HDD LED light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.

If the Harddrive activity LED light is dim when operating, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is Not Connected. N/C. Reserved for the factory

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED light
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.

If the Power On LED light is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch. (Located inside the plastic Power On button assembly. It is an ATX power on switch)

http://www.fixya.com/support/t614458-hp_mcp61pm_hm_motherboard_diagram

As for the orange SATA headers on the motherboard. The SATA harddrive should plug into the lowest number of SATA header.
It may be labled SATA 0, or SATA 1.

The beauty of SATA however, is that you can plug the harddrive into anyone of those SATA headers. BIOS will find the device. (Harddrive)

If you need guidance in connecting any other cables, such as power cables, or optical drives, etc, post back in a Comment.

Hello. I was cleaning the dust out of my computer fans and somehow the little blue & white, and red & white cables came out of where the attach to the motherboard. I am looking for a diagram so...

Looking at the board with the SATA connectors to the right and the backplate to the left. Look to the lower right corner of the board. You will see a group of two rows of pins(9pins with one missing) The pin that is missing is pin#10. The pins are numbered even on the pin#10 side, odd on the other. The Power Switch - Pin 2 is the Red wire/white is Pin 4. The Power Led - Pin 6 is blue pin 8 is white.
Shhhh! Must be a Gateway Secret.

When i connect my desktop to my monitor i don't get any visual picture, but when i connect my laptop to my monitor i do. My desktop is gateway gt5465e

So it sounds like your video card on your desktop. The best solution here if you are not looking to spend much money is to buy an off board video card. It looks like from the specs on this model you should have a spot for a pcie x16 card.
