I have a similar problem. I took the shredder head and gear box apart and found two stripped gears. True, the gears are plastic unfortunately (which is why they stripped.)

The gears are simple to get at and to replace. Does anyone know where I can purchase a set of gears for this unit (there are 3)?

If so, could you, please, email me w/ that information? ([email protected]).
I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

I disassembled the gear box and found two of the 3 gears were stripped clean. I called Fellowes to see if they still have the gears in stock. They don't. However, they replaced my shredder AT NO COST - not a dime! I'm sticking w/ Fellowes from now on. They're support is excellent.

Aloha- Need to know a couple of things before I can suggest a solution. 1st, does the drive motor run? and 2nd, are there any grinding noises coming from the unit? The best part is that Fellowes has a 5 year warranty on the cutting block (That's the part that actually does the shredding.) If there is a grinding noise, then most likely there is a stripped gear in the drive mechanism. (Not cover in the 5 year warranty)They use plastic gears and they break fairly easily.Relatively easy to replace but not available at your local hardware store. If the unit is less than a year old, take it back to the place you bought it and they should fix it free of charge, but if it's over a year old, you'll have to pay for the repair. Hope that this helped. Let me know, OK? Good luck Bill Monroe

I have a p48c fellows shredder blocked with credit card.It will reverse only but will not spit out card. It smells then gets too hot and light goes to red. Can I rescue this?

Your Fellowes shredder goes into thermal overload when it tries to digest the credit card. You will have to expose the mechanism and pick out the jammed plastic bit by bit. Despite advertising claims to the contrary, shredders cannot handle credit cards and plastic coated material. I have a Royal that claims "10X" capacity which translates into one "X" at a time with frequent pauses for cleaning out shredded material. I also have a Sylvania shredder which claims "9-sheet" capacity. That translates into one sheet at a time with frequent pauses to remove clumps of shredded material.

I have a Fellowes shredder P - 35C It will work in reverse but not inwards. I have left it for considerable time but still won't start up when I insert paper.

Unplug the shredder and check the shredding blades to be sure they are not jammed with paper. If paper is stuck in the blades, it will not function to add more paper to the jam. It WILL work in reverse to remove it's jam. Also make certain the blades have not been bent by discs, credit cards, or thick amounts of paper. If all looks well, blades are straight and not clogged with paper, be sure the door (if you have this type of machine) is closed properly. If not of this helps it run, you might need to have a professional look at it OR it might be time for a new shredder.

The shredder won't go off, as in it is running, or the yellow light won't go off?
Either way, I reccomend a good cleaning, not the outside either, the indside of the shredder. Unplug it first!!!! Either take it outside where the dust can fly or spread out some newspaper to work on. Gently remove the case and clean out as much of the paper pieces as you can. An air compressor and blow gun would be great to help clean (if you are outside) stuff out of the nooks and crannies. While you have it naked in front of you give it a good oiling with whatever Fellowes recomends, 3-in-1 oil or even WD-40 (not the best). Be careful, some of these things have circuit boards and other delicate electricl items that can be broken if handled too roughly.

Shredder Jams with more than 1 piece of paper thickness

I have seen paper shreds build up inside the cutter housing on this model. It grows into a big tumor inside and places a lot of resistance. You will have to take it apart and clean it thoroughly. Also, oiling the cutter asm.

Novitech shredder

After clearing the jam (with the unit unplugged!), let the unit cool completely, then try using it again. A notice on the nameplate inside my unit says: "2 min on/4 min off." Apparently, a thermal cutoff keeps it from overheating by automatically preventing continued operation that might otherwise melt the parts. So heed the directions. I had the same problem with my NoviTech Model PS-026/B2 crosscut shredder (max: 5 sheets, 1 credit card). Also, make sure the motor mechanism is seated square and flush on the bin. I tried testing it out of the bin, and the green ready light wouldn't come on -- for a good reason: safety. (I still have all of my fingers, thanks to that!) Hope this helps.
