Re: jam

I have a similar problem. I took the shredder head and gear box apart and found two stripped gears. True, the gears are plastic unfortunately (which is why they stripped.)

The gears are simple to get at and to replace. Does anyone know where I can purchase a set of gears for this unit (there are 3)?

If so, could you, please, email me w/ that information? (
I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

Re: jam

You can also just call the company. They're pretty helpful over the phone and they may just you a refurbished replacement free of charge!

Re: jam

Aloha- Need to know a couple of things before I can suggest a solution. 1st, does the drive motor run? and 2nd, are there any grinding noises coming from the unit? The best part is that Fellowes has a 5 year warranty on the cutting block (That's the part that actually does the shredding.) If there is a grinding noise, then most likely there is a stripped gear in the drive mechanism. (Not cover in the 5 year warranty)They use plastic gears and they break fairly easily.Relatively easy to replace but not available at your local hardware store. If the unit is less than a year old, take it back to the place you bought it and they should fix it free of charge, but if it's over a year old, you'll have to pay for the repair. Hope that this helped. Let me know, OK? Good luck Bill Monroe

The shredder won't go off, as in it is running, or the yellow light won't go off?
Either way, I reccomend a good cleaning, not the outside either, the indside of the shredder. Unplug it first!!!! Either take it outside where the dust can fly or spread out some newspaper to work on. Gently remove the case and clean out as much of the paper pieces as you can. An air compressor and blow gun would be great to help clean (if you are outside) stuff out of the nooks and crannies. While you have it naked in front of you give it a good oiling with whatever Fellowes recomends, 3-in-1 oil or even WD-40 (not the best). Be careful, some of these things have circuit boards and other delicate electricl items that can be broken if handled too roughly.

Shredder Jams with more than 1 piece of paper thickness

I have seen paper shreds build up inside the cutter housing on this model. It grows into a big tumor inside and places a lot of resistance. You will have to take it apart and clean it thoroughly. Also, oiling the cutter asm.

Can't get shredder to work

Please ... unplug your shredder before doing this.

It sounds like you were on the right track picking paper out of the gears. The problem is that the paper can get really jammed up in there, especially when you use the reverse.

I found that I needed to use a combination of a small screwdriver with at least a 3 inch long blade to push the jammed paper through. The I use needle-nosed plyers to pull the paper through the other side.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if it does.

Novitech shredder

After clearing the jam (with the unit unplugged!), let the unit cool completely, then try using it again. A notice on the nameplate inside my unit says: "2 min on/4 min off." Apparently, a thermal cutoff keeps it from overheating by automatically preventing continued operation that might otherwise melt the parts. So heed the directions. I had the same problem with my NoviTech Model PS-026/B2 crosscut shredder (max: 5 sheets, 1 credit card). Also, make sure the motor mechanism is seated square and flush on the bin. I tried testing it out of the bin, and the green ready light wouldn't come on -- for a good reason: safety. (I still have all of my fingers, thanks to that!) Hope this helps.
