Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

We have a whirlpool washing machine model no 6 A- SQ8000MW. It is 2 years old & from the time we bought it we have been unable to balance it. We have had it in for service twice for this problem with no change. There is nothing wrong with the washing cycles but we are worried about the long term damage to the machine by being off balance. Can you help? Kelly Seccombe. kellyseccombe@gmail.com

-you took it to them?-did you buy it from someone you dealt with before or was this a lowes-homedepot purchase. If the tech told you nothing wrong did he check it in your home the reason I'm asking because of the higher speed spin on newer models the floor has to be very solid beaneth the machine-also the feet need to be adjusted to give it a firm foundation. now assuming you've already done this, there are a series of springs that dampen the tub-you may have something out of wack in that department-you may want to try a different repair man. I hope this helps, its sooo frustrating these days to try and get anything done-cheers Denny

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help but someone on this site said to loosen the forward backward spring- this only made it worse. We are on a property in the middle of Queensland & out here we have to be able to do most things ourselves but this has us beat & we can't take it back to town again as twice they haven't been able to fix it. If it is leaking from the waste pump area it may be blocked by a small piece of clothing like a sock or something similar! This will also cause it to take too long to complete a cycle. Remove the rubber hose onto the waste pump and check inside the hose and the pump, make sure the pump spins freely and that nothing is stuck in the hose pipes leading to the pump

SOURCE: THE WASHING MACHINE IS LEAKING A OIL LIKE FLUID UNDER THE MACHINE?

It leaksYour washer can develop several types of leaks. You can track down a leak based on when it occurs:

During fill only
During drain and spin only
All the time

During fill only
If the washer leaks only during the fill cycle, check these:

Air-gap device -The air gap is a small device found on most washers that prevents the wash water from being siphoned into the household water supply. It's located either mid-way along or at the end of the black rubber hose that comes from the water-inlet valve. Often it's made of translucent plastic. If one of the air-gap components deforms or cracks, you may need to replace it.

The tube -There's a rubber tube that runs between the water-inlet valve and either the air-gap or the inlet spout. If it cracks or breaks, it can cause a leak.

Inlet spout -Most washers have a plastic spout near the top of the main clothes tub that directs the water into the tub. If the spout cracks or breaks free of its mounting, it can cause a leak.

During drain and spin only
A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

All the time
If the washer leaks all the time, check these:

Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate.

Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Washer - Imperial Series Quiet Wash 2

your washers drain hose is too far down the drain pipe which is causing a siphoning action pull the washers drain hose out pipe some you should be able to hear water dropping into the pipe the reason it only happens in the rinse cycle is because the water from wash is being drained and before the water vacuum is broken the rinse water comes in causing it to keep draining

SOURCE: Loud banging noise durning washing machine spin cycles.

First plug off the wall. Open the machine from behind to examine if any shock-absorbers(known as dampers) or springs have come off or broken. Your dealer could help with spares. But you could do the job yourself.

Load pop when running ,shuts down, smoke from back, burning electrical

You have a tub "Balance" bearing that is Shot! Goner! Dead! And your Tub may be a goner too! Depending on the extent of damage, you said you saw SMOKE! I never seen smoke from a washer unless someone throws a Concrete Block Stone in one on You Tube! ON PURPOSE! You have to weigh the age of machine vs the price of a new/USED one. If your machine is over 7 years old. Get a new One! Not a LG for goodness sake. Get a Whirlpool or a Maytag. I just bought a used one (Whirlpool) for $150. Still works 2 years later right next to the Dead $1600 LG I bought 6 years ago! The man I bought it from is in Rosamond, Ca. right by Edwards AFB. He has a garage full of them and guarentees his machines. There are a lot of people that do this. New is Not always the best!

    Off Balance

    1. Check all the filtration system...ie pump and all hose's and connetions there after...one of the most common is a coin where the drain hose connects to the back of the machine.
    2. Age of the machine could mean the suspension is getting soft...only fix is 4 new suspention rods.
    3. Balance switch Adjustment..most modern washers do not have this thou...not sure for your model
