The message indicates the device believes your battery to be faulty and will not charge it anymore for security reasons. The Kindle's assessment of the battery state may be a glitch I've seen reported several times and there may be a way to fix the situation:

You can try a hard reset of your device: press and hold the power switch for 30 seconds, then release it and wait for the Kindle to turn off. Then turn it on again. See if the issue is gone.

If this does not help, there is a known issue with the "Battery Pro" app. If you have it installed, remove the app and restart the device.

Last resort is to contact Amazon Kindle support via http://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport and clicking the "Contact Us" button (its yellow).

Kindle went dead, plug in charger, looks like a battery with an orange light appears. Can this happen?

I would say your battery is shot. Can you get it to some one with a tester to check it out.

What does it mean when my kindle fire hd gets too hot after a few minutes of using it?

Do you notice your battery draining quickly? When your battery drains quickly, it heats up. This can happen if you are running many things at once, or if your battery is getting old.

Hi!

You can try these steps to solve this problem:

1. Connect Kindle to a different USB.
2. Verify the charge light at the base of the Kindle is on.
3. Restart Kindle by pressing Home > Menu > Settings > Menu and select "Restart."
4. Leave the unit charging for 30 minutes

If the problem persist, contact Kindle for repair options.

Kindle 3G will not keep a charge. Tryed turning off the WI-FI and charging all night. Still Kindle was dead when I tried to use at lunch, advise please!

The only advice is that you need to replace the battery that you already have and get a new one. Replace the adaptor as Plan B.
If it connects to the computer does it keep the battery charging? If it does it could mean the adaptor needs replacing and not the battery. First is battery and then adaptor.
