Need to put new battery in, can't get the back off! No little ridge or lip, and it's not budging. Does it open via the crystal?

Take it to a jewelry store to have them do it because their is a specific machine that takes the back off.

How did you open the back? Does it pop off or twist off?

You are right, this type of watch can be opened by lifting crystal and extruding the stem. As for lifting the crystal you need a specialized tool, there is no other way then to go and find your nearest watchmakers shop. If you will try to lift the crystal using knife or any other unspecified tool, you will damage the crystal. Even if you will be lucky enough to get it out without any damage, you will not be able to fit it back, because the watch crystal setting tool reduces the crystal diameter for easy fitting.
Best solution for you is to see the watchmaker and ask for help.

This method is for face crystals that are completely FLAT! Any convex crystal will shatter without proper tools!!!
Any method of putting the watch cover back with the watch remotely near water/moisture is a mistake. The watch will rust sooner or later.
So if you don't want to pay a jeweler five dollars to put it back on, this is what I did to my sister's watch cover when I could not snap it back.
I took my cushy 1/4 inch mousepad to a vise. You may not have a vise. If you don't, stop reading now and take the watch to a jeweler --one who replaces batteries.
Inside the vise jaws, I used a 5 inch square piece of wood, then my cushy mousepad, then the watch facing the pad, then the back in the right place for restoring.
!!!!NOTE: Not having the back in the right place will smash the stem and damage can/will result!!!
To push the back on, I picked a 12 point socket out of my socket set that was the same DIAMETER as the watch back and placed it CENTERED behind the back.
Recapping, inside vise:

• small board
• cushy mousepad (to avoid scarring and crystal breakage
• watch crystal facing mousepad
• watch back in correct position
• ratchet socket the same diameter as watch back centered behind cover

Slowly I positioned all these items with minimal pressure. Then when I was sure that I was ready (and prepared to hear the crystal break) I put as little pressure closing the vise that I could. The I heard a snap, and to my relief, it was the back going in!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO WHAT I DID. People with broken watch crystals become very IRATE when "all it needed was a battery"!

A screw clamp would also give adequate pressure. Any unsupported direct pressure over the crystal will shatter it!

Unless the watch back has notches on it, you want to look around the edge of the watch and find a little lip. When you find the lipp, use one of the knives and pry open the back. Take one of the tweezers and pull out the battery, you could also use one of those handy-dandy screwdrivers to pry out the battery. Put the new battery in laying exactly like the old one , then proceed to close the back, making sure that the little notch (on the INSIDE lip of the back case) lines up with the stem and crown (the part used for setting the watch) so not to break it. The back openers and the knives are just differant ways to opn the back of the watch. Sometimes watches have screws on the back that need to be taken off in order to open the back case. The case vise is to minumize the wear and tear on your hands. The tweezers are for taking out the battery. O.K this is a tough one, because a watch maker has a press to do this. I don't know if your watch has a round crystal or if the crystal is domed. If it is round and flat, lay the watch down with the crystal side face down. Lay it on a flat scratch-proof item. Take a wooden handle that has a domed end to it. Take the back and lay it on the watch case, making sure that the knotch on the back is aliegned with the setting crown. Take the wooden tool and using the domed end put a little pressure on the endge watch case near the edge, and slowley go around the back, it should snap into place. If it's a domed or square crystal, that's a little harder and all I can think of is finding a round concaved something that fits aroung the edge of the casing NOT hitting the crystal ,and do the same thing as with the flat crystal ( go around the edge putting a little pressure on the back) For a square crystal

The problem is that water or humidity is getting into your watch. You either need a new back gasket 9 probibly nicked when changing a battery, or your crown ( the little piece used to change the time) gasket is bad, or you have a crack in your crystal. Turn your crown as if to wind it , if it turns REALLY easy your crown gasket is bad, if not you need to open your watchback and insert a new gasket around the back cover. Make sure that it fits tight ( you probibly have to stretch it a little) and then reclose the watch. The only place I know you can get a seal is at a watch repair shop.

some watches have a special way to open..nut by push/pull out the back but by rotating it .in this case it hase some small cuts in the back cover .if this so,it just might need to rotate.
