You will have to open the case to computer to get to the motherboard. On the motherboard (This is the big circuit board that your CPU, Hard Drive and everything else is plugged into.) you will see a flat wafer battery that looks like a watch battery. CR2032 is the most common type of battery used with motherboards. Once you find the battery simply do the following.

1. Unplug your computer.
2. Remove the CMOS battery.
3. Discharge all power in the computer by pressing the ON switch with it unplugged
4. Replace the CMOS battery.
5. Plug in the computer again and continue onward.

Here is another walk through to replace the battery: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000239.htm

Good luck!

Toshiba satelite bios password recovery

On laptops there isn't an easy way to recover passwords in the BIOS. Sometimes you can reset the password. Other times, you'll have to contact the manufacturer to get it reset.

Some laptops will allow you to reset the BIOS password by pulling the CMOS battery. The CMOS battery is typically located under one of the bottom panels for access to the memory or wireless cards. Some models have the CMOS battery connected by a small wire with a clip connector, others have the CMOS battery placed directly on the motherboard with a metal retainer clip.

Here is a link to a removable CMOS battery with wires: http://www.laptopparts101.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/removable-cmos-battery-560x420.jpg

Here is a link to a CMOS battery that is directly on the motherboard: http://www.laptopparts101.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/coin-cmos-battery-560x420.jpg

On a laptop, if you unplug the power cord, remove the laptop main battery and then remove the CMOS battery - and then wait at least 5 minutes, some models will blank out the BIOS password. Not every BIOS password can be erased by removing the CMOS battery - but if you are comfortable working on the laptop parts it is worth a try.

If removing the CMOS battery doesn't fix the BIOS password, the only option left is to contact the manufacturer for a reset. (If you took your laptop to a certified technician - they would just contact the manufacturer for the reset, and then bill the time to you!)

The number to contact Toshiba is 1-800-457-7777.

"Reset you're cmos/bios jumper to

HI,
No need to worry. There are many known ways to reset / remove / bypass the password:
  • By removing the CMOS battery
  • By using the motherboard jumper
  • By using MS DOS command
  • By using software
  • By using Backdoor BIOS password
Now I'll try to explain each method one by one:
A. By Removing the CMOS Battery:
xrojer_2.jpg
Almost all motherboards use a small coin sized CMOS battery to store all BIOS settings along with the password. To reset the password, unplug the PC, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30 minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings.
If it fails, then try to remove the battery for at least one hour.

B. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

C. By Using MS DOS Command:
This method works only if you have access to the system when its turned on because this method requires MS DOS. Open Command Prompt from Programs menu and provide following commands one bye one:
debug
o 70 2E
o 71 FF
quit
NOTE: The first character in the above commands is "O" and not the number 0.
After providing the above commands, restart your system and it should reset the CMOS Settings along with the BIOS password.
If you are curious to know how it works? then let me explain the above commands:
In this method we are using the Debug tool of MS DOS. The "O" character present at first in these commands, outputs the values to IO ports. The number 70 and 71 are port numbers which are used to access CMOS memory. By providing FF value we are telling CMOS that there is an invalid checksum and it resets the CMOS settings as well as BIOS password.

Need bios reset pins for k7t turbo n1996

To reset your bios, you must open the PC/Notebook so that you can see the small Cmos battery controlling it. The Cmos battery is just a quarter coin mounted at the motherboard. Take it off from the mounting, but take note which side is facing the motherboard. This will reset the bios. Once you are able to take the Cmos battery, press the start button to dissipate the charge on the capacitors. After a
minute or two, remount the Cmos battery. Then, you
can restart your PC. Hope this will slove your problem.

Reset bios password

You need to locate the Cmos battery, not the jumpers, this is not a desktop.

Locate the Cmos battery, disconnect the battery for ten seconds, and Bios will reset to factory default.

Need to reset bios password for acer 4620 laptop. tryed removing battery on mb . no good . ? passmord bios

Try removing the main battery and the CMOS battery (ie the battery on the mb). If you don't want to wait for 1/2 hour for the CMOS to discharge then short out the CMOS battery connections with a bent paper clip.
Then without instralling both battery, power up your laptop, you should then get into the BIOS, power off and re-install your batteries.
