What is the make and model of the sewing machine. When did the banging start?

Knocking noise when sewing

Check that any levers are not banging against the cover, that may not be on properly or aligned with the sewer mechanisms. Knocking is a common issue.

My machine is making a loud banging noise

These are the things that cause my machine to make a "banging" sound:

The machines with the horizontal/drop-in bobbin sometimes collect lint in the bobbin case.

Sewing fabric backed with a synthetic/foam/vinyl or adhesive.

Wrong size needle for the type of fabric being sewn.

If this is a drop-in bobbin, lint can collect in the bobbin case and make a "banging noise".

I have a brand new Pfaff GrandQuilter 18.8 and am having a ton of trouble with the tension. Also it makes terrible banging noises. Is it a lemon?

For a brand new machine, your dealer should help you get it set up properly and give you lessons. Every machine is slightly different. You may just have something as simply as an ill-fitted bobbin case or wrong needle inserted. If it is making a "banging" noise, don't force it to sew. Walk through your instruction manual step-by-step for threading and call your dealer for more help.

The timing on my sewing machine is wrong so that it making really loud banging noises does any one know how to stop this

in general, when your machine begins to make the loud banging noises, it tends to indicate a timing issue. The best way to fix this is to seek the help of a service person who deals with sewing machines. a regular service/check of your machine is recommended to help prevent these issues from arising, or regretably something more sinister.
sorry I couldnt give you a quick and cheaper answer

Kenmore sewing machine, needle banging down, bobbin banging around, etc.

Sounds to me like your bobbin case or hook came loose. Maybe your machine is out of time.
Were you possibly pulling the material through the machine to hurry things along, or did you let the machine feed it itself? Pulling it through can cause needles to flex and hit the hook area incorrectly, causing the machine to go out of time.
Now, if the needle is not going into the needle plate at the correct location ALL the time, that could be a broken needle bar (bad news), or a broken swing bar (really bad news)
