Still see message "inactive feature". I have unplugged the

unit overnight and powered back up the next morning. Still no reboot after an hour. I think it's time for a new Callpilot unit.

  • Curlycord Oct 17, 2013

You said it was a Flash Unit not a Callpilot.

  • Curlycord Oct 17, 2013

....oops not finished, if its a Callpilot then replace the Power Supply part# NTAB3456AM, also the older 9volts were soon replaced by the 8volts as the 9's were defective. Also make sure the software card is properly seated firm and in the rear slot.

  • Jeff
    Jeff Oct 17, 2013

I get power to the unit. LED's 1 & 2 are lit. No activity when connected to the network jack or serial ports. Lines from Callpilot to KSU are working fine. Never had any issues with this unit since it was installed two and a half years ago. It just quit working one day. No loss of power either.

  • Curlycord Oct 17, 2013

I have replaced hundreds of Power Supplies when rthe lghts worked.

  • Curlycord Oct 17, 2013

Bloody enter key....the PS can fail and not provide enough juice, as mentioned the 9 volts are the biggest culprit.

Try These

Do F983
-If F983 states PASSWORD then system has defaulted and you have lost ALL programming, call tech/vendor in to re-program.

Do F903
-If F903 states Fetaure Codes then say OK to all.
The system has defaulted and you have lost ALL programming, call tech/vendor in to re-program.
Try F903 and say OK to the Codes

-Do F9*1 and see what the F codes really are.

-Make sure system is properly connected to the KSU.

You should be calling in a tech/vendor when you have a system down.

See my latest comment....power supply works fine. LED's are lit. This is an 8 volt power supply, tested with a meter.

  • Curlycord Oct 17, 2013

Lights does not mean power supply is OK, I have replaced over 100 power supplies when the lights worked. Power supplies fail in ways they do not provide enough juice to get the job done. It is the first thing to try.

    Jeff Oct 17, 2013

Ok, I'll try a new power supply and see if that helps the problem. Thank you!

  • Curlycord Oct 17, 2013

I would have thought a good comment under testamonial "Testimonial:" but instead an argument when in fact you said both, look at the top of your post "Problem with NorStar Startalk Flash 2 Phone" If you dont want to try another PS thats fine, replace the cabinet and get you key codes migrated to the new unit, I am done with this post..

Sorry, I didn't write that line about the Startalk Flash. I'm not arguing with you, simply trying to get some answers. I'm done with this service.

SOURCE: inactive features

Is this just voice mail or are other features not working. Voice mail is a separate part from the phone system so you could be having phone system trouble or voice mail trouble. Most Norstar system use a capacitor for memory backup and they typically do not fail. I have seen circumstances where rapid on/off cycles (that can happen when the power goes out in a storm etc..) cause the programming to become scrambled. You should put your phone system on a good surge protector or UPS battery backup. How about other programming? Did anything default? What is the time and date on the system?

SOURCE: Inactive feature message displayed when

Dear customer..here is the solution

Sometimes when you put a new (or alternate) voicemail system on a Norstar switch, The feature codes that accessed the old system stay in the KSU memory. If this is the case all of your feature codes will appear inactive even if the voicemail system is operating correctly.
To fix this issue you need to run an External Feature test (XFtest) to identify and remove the leftover codes from your KSU memory. You must have a programming set to access this menu (M7310, M7324, T7316).
Power down the Voicemail unit. Remove connection to voicemail ports from KSU.
1. Press [Feature] **938378 (XFtest). The password will be 266344 (Config).
2. Your display will read Feat code: and you will have options First and Exit.
3. Press First. The first stored feature code will appear, and you will have options Test, Back, and Next.
4. Press Test. Your options will read Remove and OK. Press Remove.
5. Once the feature code is removed, press Next to go to the next code.
6. Do this with all codes until your display reads None Registered
7. Release
Restore connections to the voicemail ports from the KSU. Power the system back up.
The feature codes will be restored to the correct defaults with the completion of the voicemail power-up cycle.

Invalid feature and 2 lights lit

Two lights lit is the normal situation - it means that the two voicemail ports are connected to the Norstar System and active. Press "Feature 9 (star) 1" to view the CallPilot Feature Codes. Then enter System Administration feature code to begin programming the system.
Good Luck!

Inactive error keeping me from getting voice mail, and programing VM

Are you Dialing Feature 983 to Log in?....

Sometimes just by powering down the VM for about 5 Minutes and Powering up again resets the programme... BUT do not try the Feature 983 code for around 10 minutes after powering up. (depends on how much memory the VM is using)

Depending on what VM system you have there is a feature # you key in.

For instance the Nortel Callpilot feature is "feature, 981" If this is your first time logging in you will have to enter a password. Contact your systems administrator to reset or set your password to never ask.

sounds like the voicemail is rebooting or was unpluged, make sure the call pilot is pluged in and the lights are on. i had a similar problem once and the power supply to the callpilot went bad. once i replaced it it came back up and worked fine.
