Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS audio video receiver. The subwoofer I have is an Earthquake SuperNova V15. After playing the subwoofer for a while (30 minutes or so), the subwoofer mysteriously stops playing. The subwoofer uses a digital amp that's supposed to only play when it detects the presence of a signal from the receiver. I'm wondering if the signal that the receiver outputs is just a hair too weak for the subwoofer to detect. any ideas on how I can determine if my hypothesis is correct, and, if it is, what I can do about it? I'm wondering if I can manually boost the strength of the receiver's subwoofer output signal through the speaker level settings menu. Any ideas?

SOURCE: broken connector in subwoofer connection on receiver

Hi,
As per the user manual , the receiver has only one sub-woofer connector. The other alternative is to use the digital audio output for the speakers . That would mean either you have to change the speakers or get a conversion box that would connect your analog speakers to the digital output.
The other thing that can be done is to replace the sub-woofer connector. The same can be done by a radio repair guy or you can take it an authorised pioneer repair centre.

Thanks
proton

SOURCE: Subwoofer playing in stereo sound

When Stereo was the only "2 channel audio output" available. We never had Sub-Woofers and relied upon Bass and Treble controls to give an overall balance and Bass Depth to suit one's preference.
A Bass Sub-woofer is intrinsically part of a Multi-channel audio system. It is the " .1" part of the 2.1, 5.1, 6.1 sound system/s.
That is why you do not get Woofer Signal and thus output, unless you use more than just "Stereo Audio Amplification".

You really should be an expert to do repairs on these recivers but if that is the case, you can get the maintenance manual here:

RTFM. The manual is available at retrevo.com.

Some setup is required, like telling the receiver you have a subwoofer and setting speaker levels. Modern avr's are NOTplug and play.

How to set up the subwoofer

This depends to a large extent on the subwoofer. If it's self-powered, you're in business.

Open the manual (available at retrevo.com) and read starting at page 40.

And the problem is? Your receiver setup determines what gets sent to the sub from ANY source.

The indicators are to inform you of how many channels are encoded into the digital source. If a source-dependent LFE channel is encoded, it should light up. Check the source's setup to make sure it knows you have a sub and is configured for a discrete LFE channel.

Pioneer Elite vsx-27tx receiver with no bass!?

There may be a subwoofer mute function on your amp. The sub out is nothing more than a preamp output with a low frequency response. It is meant to be amplified by an external amp. Either check your powered subwoofer for operation or look through your operators manual for a sub mute function.
