Cannot connect to micro soft for help from start menu
First, why would you ever want to do this? Okay, you need to go into your services via administration controls in the control panel. When you get this window open scroll down until you find "Remote desktop" or "remote assistance" and make sure the services are activated. If they're not, activate them or put them on "automatic".
If you have third party antivirus and a firewall installed make sure that the connection is allowed in the firewall. You can do this simply by disabling it temporarily and then trying to connect to Microsoft Support. Personally, instead of creating a new rule for MS in the firewall, I'd just remember to disable it when I need to connect so that the backdoor of the service isn't left open during normal operations.
Make sure you're connected to the internet!
Check to make sure you're up to date on all pertinent security and general windows updates.
If you're running anything older than Vista, MS no longer supports live support.
