Thank you guys for all your expertise! The drum was indeed stuck. We rotated the drum while pressing the Start button and the idler button (?) and it started running. Does that mean the belt needs replacement? Which part do we have to replace? thanks all.

Do you have the customer user manual indicating what the Error PAU mean? I do not have my Error code log at hand as i read your post sorry. Provide as much info to get others to help you.
Most Error codes will lock out you machine, for safety reasons..so it wont start.

The bearing or spindle the drum rotates on is probably bad or worn out. You can get to the back and turn it by hand and feel it when you turn it. You can tell if it is metal rubbing. If so, you can replace it.

SOURCE: Squeaking Kenmore Stackable Dryer

Your rear drum bearing has worn through the plastic and is now hitting the metal support underneath it,
soon it will act like a guillotine and slice of the ball, the drum will fall backwards into the heating element and short to ground causing the fuse to blow the heater element to burn intwo and the whole thang will be dead in the water.

It sounds like the drum may be stuck. Turn the dryer on with the door open, just keep the button pushed. Then try to turn the drum by hand, and see if it will start to turn.

Check you circuit breaker. Even if it doesn't look tripped reset it anyhow. This is a power interrupt code.

SOURCE: Thermal fuse change on Kemore 970.c85042-00

First you need to know your dryer over heated and the thermal fuse tripped for a reason.

You will need to replace the thermal fuse, thermal fuses are there to protect the dryer. When you have the dryer apart clean all the venting and vacuum out the dryer. Look online for a parts supplier in your area, you will need your model and serial number to order the thermal fuse they are about ten dollars.

how long is the venting, does it exceed 20 feet, how many elbows. Make sure the outside hood is clean

How to fix a Kenmore dryer model 417.8112 with error code pau

Is your washer still full of water? You may have something in the drain motor, that would also cause the error code 41 issue. I'd first check for an obstruction in the drain motor itself. Its very easy to get access to the drain motor. Lots of times I see these get clogged with stuff ...

Runs for little while then stops and has the code PAU on the display. I tried unplugging the cord, I reset the circuit breaker. Still the same and now it won't even start.

Try taking the control board out and check for burned off traces. Solder back those points and it should work again. Just did it to mine and now it runs again. Still flashes PAU though.
