if you can get it to go back in sure why not,its simply a metal strip plugged in to a wire measuring resistance, so if its not physically broken you should be able to pop it back into place

SOURCE: Kenmore dryer 110.86864100 - Where is the moisture sensor?

Ain't no moisture sensor. This is is not an electronic sensing machine. It uses another method to determine dryness. An orange wire connects to the base of the heating element. The timer motor is driven by power from it in auto dry. The timer motor is VERY slow. Slower than most dryer timer motors. As the clothes get dryer the heat is not needed so the element is turned off by the control thermostat which is mounted next to the skinny white fuse on the blower housing. This allows for the turtle like motor on the timer to advance. Once the clothes get to the point of dryness the heater stays off way longer and the timer motor advances on over to the cool down and carry on over to the end of cycle. So the clothes won't always be dry due to factors like lint buildup in the blower housing, venting to outside and so forth. having said that my mom bought a brand new Kenmore dryer and I set it on 55 minutes timed drying. At the end of that them clothes is still damp. I then set it to auto dry high heat and that usually gets em dry. I think the main probo with this dryer is the thermostat ain't set as high as older models to keep the heat at a moderate temp so that the limits won't blow on models in apts and such. Just a theory.

Hello there and welcome to Fixya :
This is a fairly common problem with these whirpool dryers.
I will provide you with the 7 most common things to look for
which contribute to the symptom Dryer won't stop are listed below. Check or test each item and watch any available videos. If you are still unable to solve the problem you may need to do additional research and troubleshooting.
Show all parts for model GEW9878LW0 For the symptom you selected, these are the most common parts or causes, ordered by the likelihood of fixing the symptom.
othercausesandconditions.jpg Air Flow Problem The most common problem when a dryer is slow is when the vent is clogged. If the dryer is slow, check the vent from the back of the dryer to the outside of the house. If that is clogged, clear it completely and test the dryer. If the dryer is slow after the vent is cleaned, clean the internal ductwork of the dryer. This will require some disassembly.
blower-wheel-694089-00918612.jpg Blower Wheel

Item # 686172
The blower wheel draws air through the dryer and pushes the air out the vent. If the dryer won't stop, the blower wheel may not be spinning properly, which reduces the air flow. Check to see if the blower wheel is securely fastened to the drive motor shaft.

The heating element assembly warms the air before the air enters the dryer drum. If the dryer won't stop, it may be because the heating element assembly isn't working - which greatly increases the drying time. Check the heating element for continuity.

Camera says "Please e-operate after pushing reset

Remove the battery and keep aside for about 15 minutes. Now after inserting reset the camera., if the fault occurs., remove the tape and use a hair dryer to blow into the tape tray section/drum section.
It is possible that the dew sensor is working to indicate moisture, if so the heat will change the fault.
Also if the hall IC's within the drum is faulty the drum will not move and so will indicate a fault-- service.

Dryer will run for about thirty seconds and then shut down. if i wait it will start up again and then shut back down.

From your description without a model number is sounds as if you have a dryer that has an electronic control that involves sensing the moisture level of your dryers contents when in use. In this type of dryer there is either a single moisture sensor or 3 moisture sensors on the top of the ba\ffles. What has happened in that case is that the electronic contorl is no longer sensing the moisture level of you dryers contents. When the signal to the sensor is lost the dryer thinks there is no moisture in the contents and shuts off the dryer. The sensoing circuit has a problem in the form a bad densor (in the case of the single sensor type or a worn out drum brush in the three sensor type. There is a possibility that the electronicl control itself has failed. Without model number this is about as far as I can go. It is still cost effective to have your unit repaired. I hope this was useful information.

Washer dryer zwd 1480 zwd 1680 when i put a wash on after a couple of minutes it shoots down to 3 minutes and finishes. any ideas????

I have exactly the same problem, I am doing some testing with mine at the moment and I believe it to be one of the two thermostats in the heating chamber.

If you was to remove the top cover you'll find a long silver cilinder running through the middle of the unit. Looking from the front there are two modules on the left side (thermostats) with 2 wires connected to each towards the back of the dryer. These measure the temperature inside the heating chamber, on removing them the heat stays on, you have probably noticed the dryer is not even getting hot so the moisture sensor won't pick up any moisture in the air so the dryer trying to be cleaver with think the clothes inside are dry and finishes the cycle early.

I wouldn't reccomend removing these thermostats as it will probably overheat and cause a fire risk, however they should only cost a couple of ££ to replace.

Now I've just got to try and source the parts!!

Running but not collecting water...

Dehumidifiers have only a few components, and operate on the same principle as a refrigerator, freezer, or air-conditioner.
Components Residential dehumidifiers have a cooling system made up of these primary components:

  • The compressor is the quiet motor (engine) of the cooling system. It's the black, football-size component at the bottom of your dehumidifier. The compressor runs as long as the dehumidifier humidistat (the humidity-sensor) calls for a reduction in the humidity.

  • The condenser is a series of finned tubes, similar to a radiator. It's usually near the circulating fan.

  • The evaporator is located near the back of the dehumidifier, right above the water-collection container. It also resembles a radiator or a coiled-up set of tubes. When the dehumidifier's humidistat senses increased humidity, it cycles on, which starts the compressor and circulating fan.

  • The circulating fan circulates the air over the evaporator and condenser coils.

Principle When the unit runs, the circulating fan and compressor also run. The fan continually draws room air over the evaporator coils, which are cold, and then over the condenser coils, which are warm. Because the evaporator coils are cold, the moisture in the room collects on them--just as the outside of a glass of icy liquid "sweats" on a warm, humid day. When the moisture on the coils increases, it drips off of the coils into the collection container.

The air then flows over the warm condenser coils and out into the room. This process removes water from the air and, because of the heat from the fan motor and compressor motor, the exiting air is somewhat warmer, as well as dryer.

Whirlpool Electronic Gas Dryer

I would suggest cleaning your moisture sensors. If you stick your head inside the open door and look straight back towards your lint screen, you will see 2 silver bars. These are your moisture sensors. They can get a coating on them over time. Once this occours, the moisture can't reach the sensor and the machine thinks the load is dry and shuts down. Using the abrasive side of a sponge or even some fine grit sand paper, run it back and forth each of them. You should be good to go if you've already cleaned the area underneath the lint screen, made sure the hose from the dryer to the wall is not kinked, folded over or smashed and you have good airflow coming to the outside of the building.
