Starter needs replaced

STARTER PROBLEMS

It can be faulty starter or there is loose connection from battery to starter. The starter assembly gets power from battery. Check voltages at starter wires and see if you are getting 12 volts or not. If not then its no power issue due to low battery volt or no connection between battery to starter.

1991 Honda Night Hawk 750.., battery fine but the fuse box clicks when I push the start button, nothing else happens.

There are no moving parts in your fuse box. The clicking sound is the contact bar closing in your starter solenoid.Follow your positive battery cable to your starter solenoid. If your push your starter button and you hear a click in the starter solenoid , then your starter button is good. If you take a piece of wire, a screw driver, or simply touch the the two power cables on the the starter solenoid together you will be putting power directly to your starter. If you jump the solenoid and the starter works you need to replace the starter solenoid. If with direct power to the starter, you tap the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you will need to replace the starter assembly the manufacturers do not sell replacement parts for there starters (only the brushes).

Solenoid clunks bike does not start

Make a connection between the positive battery cable and the starter cable located on the solenoid. This will put power directly to the starter. If the starter turns the motor over then the contacts inside the solenoid are burnt, replace the solenoid. If when jumping the solenoid the starter does not turn over , remove the starter and check to see if the brushes are worn out. If the brushes are worn replace them. If the starter is worn out replace it no other parts are available to fix it.

How do I test the starter solenoid?

Test the starter solenoid by connecting a jumper cable to the battery side of the solenoid. The solenoid has two large posts and two small posts. A single large post is located on either side of the solenoid. Attach the alligator clip of the jumper cable to the large post on the battery side of the solenoid. Touch the opposite end of the jumper cable to the large post on the other side of the solenoid. If the starter turns the engine normally, the problem likely lies with an ignition override switch, such as a clutch start switch or a neutral safety switch. If the starter produces a buzzing sound, the starter is likely defective. If there is no response at all, the solenoid is defective and must be replaced.

Wont turn over. no crank, starter clicks, no dead battery. replaced the relay.

this problem is caused by burnt battery contacts inside the starter solenoid that power the starter motor, either remove the starter and rebuild the solenoid or replace it or the whole starter, the starter solenoid is mounted directly to the starter. You can easily replace the contacts, they are avail on ebay for around $10
Remember ALWAYS disconnect the battery Negative cable befor u start work

Starter solinoid replacement enstruction

SOLENOID REPLACEMENT
(see Figures 5, 6 and 7)

Prior to removing the solenoid from the starter motor unit, matchmark the solenoid-to-starter motor housing position, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
  1. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.
  2. Detach the solenoid-to-starter motor wire from the solenoid terminal.

Do not disassemble the solenoid; if the solenoid is defective, replace the entire unit with a new one.
  1. Remove the two attaching screws, then slide the solenoid out of the starter motor housing flange.

Fig. 6: Disconnect the field coil lead from the solenoid by loosening the retaining nut ...

e357fdb.jpg

Fig. 7: ... then remove the two attaching screws and separate the solenoid from the motor housing

To install:
  1. Inspect the solenoid plunger joint for wear or other damage. Replace it, if damage is evident.
  2. Apply Suzuki Super Grease A (99000-25010) or equivalent, to the solenoid plunger and to the tip of the lever arm (inside the starter motor-to-solenoid housing hole).
  3. Insert the solenoid into the starter motor housing, ensuring that the matchmarks made during removal are aligned.
  4. Install and tighten the two attaching screws securely.
  5. Attach the starter motor-to-solenoid wire to the solenoid terminal.
  6. While the starter motor is removed form the vehicle, perform the testing procedure to ensure that the new solenoid functions properly.
  7. Install the starter motor.

Hope this help (remember rated and comment this).
