Fellowes SB-87Cs shredder: The metallic sticker, which runs the width of the main paper feed, is coming unglued. When I insert paper, the paper gets stuck between the sticker and the machine. What is the purpose of this sticker and can I remove it? (I've uploaded a photo where you can see it. I took the photo with the cd/credit card feed door popped open.) Thanks!

Why does my shredder get really hot and start smoking?

These shredders are not made to run for continuous or long periods straight. Check your manual and it should tell you the maximum continuous run time. And most importantly are you oiling the shredder? Without oil you are going to burn it out and cause all sorts of problems.

How do I stop shredder from spitting documents in and out?

Try cleaning the cutters well. This will require you UNPLUGGING the shredder. Turning it (the top feeding-cutting) part upside down and removing ALL paper and if you see paper clips or staples-REMOVE THEM! You will need to start the motor several times to move the cutting blades around for a complete cycle to make sure you have removed all debris from the cutting blades.
If this does not work you may have an electrical problem you will not be able to solve. Look for your shredder number in the link provided below and download.

Open door indicator light is on even when the door is tightly closed. Shredder won't fuction because of this.

Small plastic wafer mounted inside door has been
broken or bent out of position. At you own risk, you
can wedge something into the slot to jam switch in
operating position permanently.

There must be an auto-on/off sensor in the middle of the paper entrance slot - either mechanical or optical. It needs to be cleaned from any obstructions like paper chads or paper dust.It this doesn't help, the sensor maybe defective and it needs to be replaced.

Shredder will not atomaticly turn on when paper is put in.

The micro switch is stuck or bad. It is located in center of the cutters. Unplug and check for scraps of paper jamed around the switch.
