This is quite a technical process that must be done very accurately. You have no chance of doing it without the factory specs and correct tools. Not a DIY job! Save yourself the grief. making an incorrect adjustment could cost you $$ replacing loopers etc!

SOURCE: thread continually breaking in lower looper needle

I was having this very same problem with my lower looper . I had been using the one needle stitching all afternoon and I was doing quite nice stitching. then I decided to put the right needle back in and do some overlock stitching and guess what I spent the next two hours fighting the looper problem. I had completely re-thread this machine at least 20 times now. I decided to take the needle out and re-insert it and re-thread it one more time (right lower looper- then upper looper- right needle- then left needle) was careful to pull all threads to the back and under the presser foot for about 6 inches.
Held on to the thread, lowered presser foot and did the chaining stitch. BINGO it didn't break, tried it with a piece of cloth and Perfect stitches. I have a Babylock BL402 and used tension settings left to right
4-3-3-3 and default settings for the rest.
Hope this helps someone someday.

SOURCE: Threading an Empisal Overlocker - Model S4D

All sergers thread the same way and sergers have to be threaded in a certain order. I made a jingle out of it...
upper looper
lower looper
right needle
left

It would be best to have a tweezers handy to help with the thread and threading.

always be sure the lower looper thread goes over the top of the upper looper then out the back. I would be surprised if your thread guides are not color coded.
If you look at the top thread guides or the spools. First from left to right thread the 3rd spool, then the fourth spool. Then you thread the right needle (the second spool) then the left needle (1st spool.
The lower looper can be tricky because you have to thread it from the back of the looper to the front.
Pull the threads out the back from under the foot. Then go ahead and run it slow watching to see if it starts making a chain. It should. If not do it over again.
Good luck

Empisal 760C overlocker : the left needle thread does not engage in the chain

Try replacing with a brand new needle and confirm that it is firmly and correctly installed. If it still will not engage with the looper threads, then you should probably take it for service.

What is the tension settings on the empisal model S4D

Tension on sergers will vary based on the type of stitch you want to create. For basic overlocking, the tensions are usually set at the midway point. However, every machine is different, so some tweaking will most likely be required to get the stitch where you want it.

How to thread an empisal over locker ,DE-LUXE400

The manual should be helpful:
Empisal companion deluxe 400 user manual

It is always best to start out with brand new needles.

Before beginning to thread, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot throughout the threading process. This releases the tension disks so the thread will seat properly.

Follow the thread order when threading or your machine will most likely never work properly. Usually, it would be the upper looper first, the lower looper next, and then the needles. However, your manual should clarify that. Also, when threading each, be sure to give each thread an extra little tug when it goes through the tension disk to make sure it seats correctly.

How to thread a Empisal overlocker.. model 760C

Perhaps the manual would help:

Empisal Overlocker 760C Empisal Sewing Machines

On most machines, it is important to ALWAYS raise the presser foot when threading the machine (although the instruction manual says to raise the presser foot only to pull the thread tail under it). Be sure to give the thread an extra little tug when going through the tension disk to seat it properly. Be sure to thread in the order as specified (Upper looper, Lower looper, Right needle, Left Needle). If the machine messes up, it is usually a best policy to remove all the thread and rethread from the beginning. Threading out of order will almost guarantee failure!!!

Difficulty to do needle threading on S4D overlocker

Sergers are absolute "bears" when threading compared to sewing machines. If/when you get frustrated, walk away. It took me the majority of one day before successfully getting my first serger threaded properly. Using four different color threads is also helpful when learning the serger--especially when it comes to adjusting the tension.

It is very important to pay attention to the order the threads are threaded, as well as making sure the thread path for each is correct. (Consult your owner's manual as different brands will look different.) Most machines require that the upper looper be threaded BEFORE the lower looper because the lower looper thread will cross OVER the upper looper thread as the final step before going under the presser foot.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading!!! This releases the tension disks.

Also, when threading through the tension disk, be sure to give the thread an extra little tug to make sure the thread seats firmly in the tension disk. (Grasp the thread just below the thread stand with one hand and then grasp the thread below the tension disk with the other hand and give a little tug--sometimes it will make a little popping noise when it seats.)

Start out with the tensions set at the midway point. From that point, you can test your machine to make sure it is serging properly. Then you can adjust the tensions to suit you or the project you are making.

If the either looper thread breaks or pulls out, remove BOTH looper threads and rethread from the beginning!!! Trying to finagle threading of only one thread will most often result in a machine that will not operate correctly. Just bite the bullet and rethread both threads (in the order specified in the manual).

I seem to have trouble using the tweezers to thread the looper eyes, so I use dental floss threaders instead.

One more hint: NEVER pull the thread out of the machine by pulling it UP through the machine. This could damage or wear the tension disks. Always clip the threads just below the thread stand, RAISE the presser foot, and then pull the clipped threads DOWN through the looper eyes and needles.

Be sure to clean and oil your serger frequently. This is very important to get the best performance from your machine. Use only fresh oil recommended by the manufacturer and apply only a couple drops each spot.

I need help in good tension for rolled hem in empisal 606D overlocker

Your owner's manual should have instructions for rolled hem settings. My Bernina manual has a the following settings:
Medium weight fabric
80/12 Universal needle
3 cones serger thread
Upper looper 3-5
Lower looper 7-9
Left needle (no thread)
Right needle 3-5
Stitch length 1-1.5
Cutting width 2-3
Differential feed N

Can use woolly thread in the upper looper, but the tension may need to be loosened since the woolly nylon thread will stretch.
