Mine does the same thing. I think that the problem might be that you have to go to the yellow gear thing and you have to change the recording format to DVD and you have to change the video format to NTSC_M. And make sure you have all of your hardware and your y splitters connected right

I was having a problem with a USB capture device and found out that if I had anything else connected to the other USB ports it would not work properly. It needed all the power that the USB port can give it... I had the same issues testing it with a couple of my laptops too.

SOURCE: vc500 sound but no video
A possibility is that you are set to the wrong video source (for example, the S-Video instead of the composite).
The second possibility is that you are set to be "PAL" capture for an NTSC source or vice versa. If you are in the US, set NTSC. If anywhere else, select PAL.
