SOURCE: John Deere Lawn Tractor LX176. Battery discharge

Locate voltage regulator above battery to the left as you sit on machine, its behind frame that supports steering wheel.Once you have found it use a light to shine on harness and follow the brown wire that leads into regulator. The plastic around that wire should not be burnt or showing any other color. The LX series machines had a problem with brown wire coming loose and causing the charging light to stay on.Remove plug from reg and use small screwdriver to clean out wire and work it a little so it makes good contact.

Generally 50nm is sufficient. Clutches tend to be a clockwise thread to remove them so the tend not to unwind when running.

John deere 4 cylinder engine model 4045 will crank but not run

Nickole, there have been many versions of the 4045 made, all with different fuel systems on them, so the diagnostic process is different.
On the engine serial number tag there will be a model designation, something like: 4045HF275 or 4045TT078.
If you can provide this information, it will help a lot.

My John Deere z225 was operating normally until my son snagged an old carpet and stalled the engine. Pulled the carpet out, now the engine turns over, but won't engage. Help?

If it is engine that is not starting you may may have a sheared flywheel.

Depending how that Briggs 310000 series may have the key that shears easily. The flywheel and crankshaft were redesign in July 2012 because of this. If your engine is before this then a steel key and torquing the flywheel to 110 ft-lbs should solve this.

How to replace pto clutch on John Deere x320

Removal and replacement fairly straight forward, you just need to prevent the engine crankshaft from turning. This can done either holding the flywheel or using a piston stop. Also some clutches have a set of flats that a 1-3/8 open end wrench will fit.

When reinstalling the center bolt torque to 50-55 ft-lbs. Also make sure the anti-rotation device is engage into clutch assembly or it will rip the wires out at the first startup.

By the thickness of the base gasket. No just set it on and tighten nut/bolt to correct torque.
