This is how to reset the receiver to factory default- not sure if it is the same reset you would do for an amp error:

Resetting the system
Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to
the factory default. Use the front panel controls to do this.
1 Switch the receiver into standby.
2 While holding down the front panel STEREO/A.L.C
button, press and hold
u STANDBY/ON for about two
seconds.
The display shows RESET?.
3 Press the front panel AUTO SURR/STREAM DIRECT
button.
The display shows OK.
4 Press HOME THX to confirm.
OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver
has been reset to the factory default settings.
Note that all settings will be saved, even if the
receiver is unplugged.

Unfortunately, amp errors are usually not fixable and require you to bring the receiver on for repairs or just buy a new receiver.

THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH! I basically got through the 1st step or so and the thing came right back on like nothing had ever happened. Although, I think what ended up working for me was actually pressing and holding the STANDBY/ON button with the AUTO SURR/STREAM DIRECT button together for a few seconds....I didn't have to reset to factory settings, nor did I have to do step 3 or 4.

Now the receiver is working just fine like nothing ever happened. All of the input AND output speaker channels all seem to be functioning normally and in peak form, and I've made sure that I have the area around the receiver well ventilated. So....thank you, again...for getting back to where I really wanted to be without having to go through the hassles of disconnecting everything and having it serviced with possible $ and time expenses.

Could be....
  1. There's a short in your speaker wiring somewhere
  2. or a blown speaker
Wiring shorts might be only a single strand of copper wire. But it's enough that at higher volumes it conducts enough current between the speaker terminals to trip the amp's protection mode.

Fix the problem. Go through your wiring. Check using a torch. If all looks good then it's a blown speaker.

Remove the speaker wires from the amp. Switch the amp on and turn the volume up full. The amp should stay on. Turn the volume down and switch off.

Now connect ONE speaker only. Try the amp on and volume up again. If it trips out then that's the faulty speaker. Repeat by adding one more speaker each time. When the amp trips, the last speaker added is the culpret.

If you've done all the simple stuff, then what's left is a problem with one of the output transistors. It needs the output transistor(s) replaced inside the unit. These directly drive the loudspeaker outputs on the receiver itself, and one or more of them being shorted (closed circuit), will trigger the error on the display of the receiver, and it will not go off until the problem is repaired. They are not user-replaceable as they are PCB mounted, and thermally coupled to a heatsink. In this case, the unit is in need of service.

NAD M3 power light turns red immediately and PROTECT message displays. Amp keeps functioning but volume control doesn't work up or down.

Hello
Check the connection to speaker with this amp, for any short or any other fault. disconnect the outputs, ie, speakers from the amp, and switch it On, and see the protect display comes or not. If it comes, the fault is internal and the set need service.
Your M3 dual Mono integrated amp, is of high output power and its outputs are protected against any overload or short circuit. If the system detect any among this condition specified above, it will show protect mode display.
Never load this amp, as protection display is there, as it may damage the speaker or its internal power amplifier section circuits, may cause more money to get it repaired. OK.

When playing DVD, it's sometimes display 'PROTECT' and stop playing.

Check if you receive the error when playing any DVD in particular.

What happens when you take out the DVD and try playing it again? Does it play

This protector error denotes several possible problems. Heat, volume level and incorrect DVD settings may be the cause of the problem. The following steps will help you correct your problem and rid your amp of its "Protector" error.

  • Examine your volume setting to be certain that your volume knob is not at maximum. Having your volume cranked too high can cause the capacitors to overheat, shutting down the receiver.
  • Unplug your receiver and disconnect your speakers from the terminals on the back. This will allow you to determine if the error is internal. Plug your receiver back in and look for the same error message. If you continue to get the protector error without having your speakers connected, you may have an internal electrical problem. In this case, contact Sony about finding a repair center.
  • Reconnect your speakers one at a time. The order of connection doesn't matter. When reconnecting, be sure that you do not have your positive and negative speaker wires crossed in any way. After each connection, test your amp by running it with a source. Give each speaker a few minutes of power before connecting the next one. This will help you isolate which speaker terminal is causing the error. When the protector error returns, take note of which speaker connection caused it. Check this speaker wire for shorts or torn shielding.
  • Examine your ohm rating of your speakers if you have no shorts or wiring issues. Sony receivers are not compatible with speakers lower than 4 ohms. Connecting a lower ohm-rated speaker will cause an error.
  • Turn off the surround sound option if you have both your A and B position speakers in use.
  • Keep your receiver well ventilated. Overheating due to poor ventilation can also cause Protector errors.
  • Examine the sampling frequency of your connected DVD player. If the error only occurs when you watch a DVD, the sampling frequency of the DVD player may be set too high. Check the sampling rating in your receiver's manual and in the DVD player

The 1 gb pen drive is shown in my computer & and the task bar but on clicking the icon the "Insert Drive " message is displayed.

Try to run a disk check.

Right click on the drive's icon, select properties, go to the "tools" tab.

Select "check for errors".

Depending on the operating system on your computer, this could be called "run scan disk", "run disk check" or "check volume for errors".

I have a 50" samsung plasma that was working fine now the volume just dissapeared & when i try to adjust the volume it shows the normal volume display with headphone icon in the display & when i...

You would need to replace the headphone socket then and if I am correct it should be mounted to a plug in board. I first need the model number of your Samsung to look up the part number. The model will be on a sticker on the side and will be something like HTP50***/XAA or something like that.

As soon I turn on it shows internal error 8 & 4444-444c

http://depts.washington.edu/uwmcdir/spectralink.html Correcting Spectralink Errors Below are instructions on performing a “soft test” which will correct any internal error 8 and 4444-444C messages on your Spectralink phone. To aid you in educating your staff you may view the following Word document showing the step-by-step instructions. Please feel free to print and post this document where the Spectralink phones are kept on your floor. Soft Test Instructions
  1. Power off the phone.
  2. Press and HOLD the volume key (VOL) and the power key at the same time (the phone will chirp and display the serial number.)
  3. Now…release ONLY the power key (phone will vibrate and make a long tone.)
  4. Now release the volume key (the display will have a lot of black boxes and ZZZZ’s – you will also see the bottom of the display showing “msg”, “bat”, etc.)
  5. Count to three and then power off the phone.
This “soft test” is to correct only certain internal error messages. When the phone is experiencing a correctable error the display will read “internal error 8” or “internal error 4444-444C”. For all other internal errors the phone will need to be taken to Teleservices, NE-165 to be replaced.
