Question about Panasonic PV-GS31 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Using the PV-GS31 as a web cam

When I turn the camera to "camera" while connected to the pc, it shows that it's in webcam mode, but I can't seem to pull an image from it. I just moved...can't locate the owner's manual. Any advise on how to actually get it to work?

    I ned software for pv-gs31

1 Answer

Go to menu. Under playback, go to USB Function, more than likely, it say Web Camera  next to it. Pan right and select DV Studio.

                     12 bit AUDIO
                     audio out
                     USB FUNCTION -> web camera
                                                  DV STUDIO

This should work.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Install DRIVERS from CD before connecting to the PC
Do the wizard stuff.
Connect cam to PC using USB cable
Press on button
Select DSC/DV mode button to read "PC camera" on LCD
Do new hardware wizard stuff
(Be sure to click "Continue Anyway" when windows kicks the install. Wizard will run again)
Finish wizard
Turn on cam
select "PC Camera"
Open "My Computer"
Double click on the Camera Icon to start webcam!

This works for XP SP2. It does seem to crash Firefox when trying to connect to Blogtv which was all I
troed using it on. It may have other issues! I actually use a cheap "Gear Head Quick Webcam Basic" that I got at Big Lots for $13 for video conferencing

No Web Cam

I e-mailed the company and they gave me an answer. It works because the manual that comes with the camera doesn't tell you how to put the camera in Web Mode. This is a strait copy and paste of their answer:

Please note that you will have to set the camera to PC Camera mode before using the webcam function.

1. Press POWER/MENU.

2. Press FLASH/SET or showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=2&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0

3. Press POWER/MENU to select the icon showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=3&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 shown on the LCD.

4. Press showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=4&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 or showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=5&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 to select the icon showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=6&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 shown on the LCD.

5. Press FLASH/SET orshowletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=7&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0. .

Please help with panasonic PV-GS31 !!

The driver for Win 200 will work fine under XP. Vista of course is another monster all together.
What I would suggest under Vista is the following.
Use the same Win2000 Drivers...
  1. Extract the drivers to a folder.
  2. Plug the camera into the USB port and Vista will detect it. At this point (if you are really lucky) Vista will have drivers in it's catalogue and install them.
  3. If it does not have them it will pop up a box and ask what you want to do.
  4. Choose select the driver from a list.
  5. When the window pops up, choose Have Disk and browse to the folder you extracted the files into.
  6. Pick the right INF file and then select OK.
  7. It will then begin to try and install the drivers.
  8. Follow any other prompts you see, and make sure to read each one clearly.
Hope that helps =)
