My Gateway ne56r41u is stuck on blue screen w/ please wait displayed. Tried 2 gateway support but no warranty so sent 2 another line. Told me to pay $100 4 support w/o telling me if it's fixable! Help

I am assuming that this just happened and that the machine was ok otherwise. If this is true, try the following steps first:

** Assuming the machine is still on:

1. Hold down the power button on the machine until you force it to turn off.

2. Wait at least two minutes, turn the machine back on and see if the machine will start normally.

If not, see this link for additional information and discussion about this model:

Just be careful - performing some recovery or repair procedures can cause data loss, so please be aware of that before proceeding.

How do I access my NE56R41u user manual?

I don't know whether you user manual will have been installed to your computer during setup or not, but if you go to this link

Drivers Downloads

which is on the Gateway site and safe, you can select your product by the drop down lists and then clicking on Documentation and download the manual from there.
One word of advice if you don't mind and that is that the ability to print business cards may be more a function of the software and/or printer that you have, rather than the computer.
Hope this helps

How to clear bios password on a ne56r41u

Try to simply pop out the battery that maintains the BIOs memory and restart the computer without it. You will have to shut down, replace the cell and reboot setting parameters again for the BIOs (Date and Time etc.)

My LaCie hard drive is listed in preferences but it does not boot. Your suggestions?

Have you ensured the Lacie HDD is bootable? IMC, external drives that does not contain boot files or not-formatted in bootable mode cannot boot your device.

Try formatting your Lacie drive into bootable mode. Right click -> Format -> Check "make device bootable" and click start. THis shoudl help.

The problem is my emachine laptop does not want to start up it is asking me a boot decives wch l dont have, the model for my emachines is E525, where can l get the boot device?

It is asking you for a bootable drive or device.
Your windows OS is your main bootable device, if it is not booting, you must have a error in your windows installation.
Other bootable devices can be your Windows CD, or a USB drive with some bootable media on it.
Try tapping F8 when you turn your PC on, it will give you the option to boot into safe mode, or may also give you repair / restore options.
Try booting into safe mode and do a system restore

Bootable files

When a computer is powered on, the BIOS ("basic input output system") has only a few commands available to it, and the main one is to search for a "boot device" - a storage device which contains "bootable files". The first device it finds with "boot records" is used to load the operating system.

Usually this is the C drive, but could also be a floppy, USB flash memory, or CD.

In order to get the boot records onto a device, a special option must be used when the device is formatted. This boots the boot records in a place where the BIOS knows to look for them.

So, a bootable file (or "bootable device") is a storage device which has been set up with these boot records.
