Question about DISH Network DVR 510 DTV Receiver / 100-Hours Video Recorder

DVR won't set a timer to record a show

When I set my DVR to record a show it doesn't. I go to Menu and see the scheduled timers and it says there is none and at the bottom of that screen it says "enable inactivity standby to sensure proper timer functionality"

I have a 510 receiver, and I have the same problem. Every week to 10 days, the schedule disappears. If I go to the Timers list, all the timers are there. I have to edit each timer (e.g., change a Once to a Weekly, save, then change it back to a Once) and it will reappear on the schedule and record. This is fine for another week or so. I called Dish Network and they said they were unaware of the problem and would have the engineering department look into it. I see online that others have the problem, so my suggestion is that you call Dish Network and report it. My guess is it's a software problem, and they'll only fix it if they get complaints.

Thanks for the feedback. I called dish network and reported the problem. As always they are going to "check into it" We'll see...my dvr has been playing fine the last month now so until it messes up again I guess I will continue to use it. Thanks again for the comments!

I have never encountered this but if you have enabled the standby and it still does not work you will need a new receiver. The feature was to enable a screen saver so that televisions screens would not be etched if it were left on and you fell asleep. My suspicion is that the DVR hard drive is corrupt giving you this false message.

I am FURIOUS at Dish and intend to go back to DirecTV. With Direct; if you try to record a show; and it conflicts with another show you are recording at the same time - it will TELL you this. Not with Dish... Also, I have been told I can program TWO shows at one time; not so. I go to the "timer" and I see a "line" through all the shows I've programmed to record! I have MISSED the first 2 new episodes of Grey's Anatomy that I very carefully and clearly told Dish to record. When I "edit" the timer; I find that I set things correctly. Furthermore, this show doesn't even overlap with another show I'm taping - it simply is NOT recording it! DirecTV is more sophisticated; it communicates better with the viewer. For instance, it WILL say, "You already have one show recording at this time. You are about to have TWO shows recording at once; are you sure you want to record this show, also?" There are NO prompts, no helpful hints, nothing w/Dish. I have had to change and reprogram American Horror Story TWICE last season because of this same problem. Now, I just go to the daily show guide and hit "record" on my handset. That's the only guaranteed way for me to record w/Dish. It really sucks and is awful!!!

Dvr VIP622 will only record up to 20 episodes, still has 148 free hours left...whats the cause and fix?

hmaddison21,

Our 622 receivers are able to record more than just 20 episodes. There is a setting you can change to ensure it keeps any recordings.

Press the DVR button 3 times to go to Daily Schedule. Once there select "Timers" and then manually select the timer that you're having problems with. Go to Options and on the bottom is a "Maximum Recorded Events" section. This is where you can tell the receiver how many episodes to hold before automatically deleting them. Delete the timer and reset it up, make sure that box has a # symbol in it. If the problem continues afterwards, let me know here!

How do you delete a program that is mistakenly added to the record every episode mode

The easiest way I know is to press menu, then daily schedule. Find the program in question in your list. Click on that program and you will se a window "timers", click on that and you will see "delete", click on that. then you can reset your program to record the way you want. You can also follow the same proceedure, click menu, then daily schedule, then click on "timers". Scroll to the timer you want to delete, click on it, then click on delete.

florami

The following is instructions for deleting timers from your receiver.

Turn your TV on. Press your DVR button on your DISH remote 2 times. This will bring up My Recordings on your TV. Select the Schedule button on the right of the screen. This will take you to the Daily Schedule screen. Select the Timers button on the right. You will be on the Timers List screen. Press and release the Left Arrow button on the remote to move the cursor into the Timers List box. Select the timer you want to remove. After pressing select on the remote, there is a button on the right, Delete. Select the Delete button and it will ask you if you are sure you want to delete the timer. Select Yes. You will need to follow those steps to delete all timers you do not want. As you delete timers, you will not see those timers on the Timers List or the Daily Schedule anymore. I hope this helps.

When I try to record back to back programs on different channels the timers won't work. It tells me there is a conflict with the timers and tells me to change priority or whatever. I can set a manual...

Hi this is Luke.
DVR Priority settings are used to prioritize timers should there be a conflict between timers. The top of the list is the highest priority and takes precedence. The bottom of the list is the lowest priority. A lower priority timer will not fire if there is a higher priority timer at the same time. Timers that conflict with each other will display Attention 532. The message may display when switching from Single User Mode to Dual User Mode because the receiver recalculates timers for conflicts.
  1. Press DVR three times on the remote (twice for a 942 receiver). The skip timer icon (red x) designates a conflicting timer.
  2. Select Timers.
  3. Select Set Priority.
  4. Select the timer to change.
  5. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons on the remote or the Move Up and Move Down options on the screen to move the timer priority one at a time. Use the Move to Top and Move to Last options on the screen to make the timer top or last priority.
  6. Select Done.

Selecting Automatically resolve by priority will allow the receiver to set the priority level of the timer. The last timer created will have the lowest priority level and will not be recorded if both tuners are being used for other higher priority level timers.

Selecting Change the priority of this timer will allow the customer to set the priority level of the timer. With the new event highlighted in the Daily Schedule screen (the event will display with the skip icon), press Select. Select Restore and then Yes. The new timer will now have a higher priority level than the conflicting timers.

You may also want to resolve the conflict by:
  1. Press Menu on the remote.
  2. Select Daily Schedule.
  3. Select Timers.
  4. Arrow over and select the timer that needs to be edited.
  5. Select Edit.
  6. Make the desired changes then select done.
Let me know if this help.

My DVR receiver is recording programs that i originally did not put on the schedule. My receiver is also showing the programs in the guide and my daily schedule as "No Info Available". I have...

Hello! For these issues, here are a few simple steps:

First, for the DVR recording shows, you just need to delete those timers. They may have accidentally been set up.
1. Menu, 7-Daily Schedule
2. Timers
3. Edit list
4. Select any timers that you did not create, or want deleted. This will stop them from recording!

For the program guide:
You just need to download the program guide. Here's a couple easy ways:
First way:
1. Pull up the Guide
2. Press 999 then the right arrow button (Browse) until the guide prompts a download,

Second way:
1. Pull up a menu. Press 6 (Sys setup) -1(Installation) - 1( Point dish)
2. Highlight and select Check Switch on the upper right
3. Select test at the bottom left. (If a message comes up between steps 2 and 3, select yes. )
4. Press VIew live tv, and allow the Acquiring signal message and the guide download to go through.

I hope these steps help!!!

Dish DVR recording shows that haven't been programmed to record

This may be caused by as many as three variables.

The first would be that if your neighbor has Dish Network and they have their TV2 near yours it could be picking up their recording preferences. This would create a recording specific to let's say MONSTER TRUCKS.

The next is if you notice MONSTER TRUCKS when trying to view an intended recording at the beginniong or end of the desired recording. This can occur if the start time an end time for your recordings have been set to begin before your intended recording and end after the intended program completed. You can edit this by pressing the DVR button, my recordings, schedule, timers, pick a recording from the list and press select, now press options and you will see the timer options which will allow you to manipulate the start early time and end late time among other things.

Lastly is that your program guide is out of date or the guide is totally errant. Unplug the receiver from the wall for a minute and repower it. This will force the system to update itself if it is not intefered with during this process. If after this procedure the same issue is occurring and the guide says the program you want recorded but retrurns an unwanted one then the guide is corrupted on the Dish Network side and will be repaired as soon as possible.

I hope this assists you. Thanks fornusing Fix Ya.

Every program scheduled to record starts and ends five minutes early? So the end of the preceding program is recorded and the end of the selected program is cut off.

BigBillO,

One of the options for the DVR recordings is starting and ending before the program starts and ends. You can change this setting to your preference. To change , press the DVR button 2 times on your DISH remote. This will bring up the "My Recordings" screen on your TV. Go to "Schedule" button on the right side of the screen. Press select. You should be on the "Daily Schedule" screen. Go to "Timers" button on the right of the screen. Press select. You are now on the "Timers List" screen. Select one of the programs scheduled to be recorded and press "Select". You are now on the "Timer Schedule" screen. Go to "Options" button and press select. You are now on the "Timer Options" screen. This is the screen you can set your preference for the "start early" and "stop late" settings. Be sure to select the "Set as System Default" if you want to apply this setting to all your recordings. I hope this helps.
