Saw would not start so I bought a new carb and it still won't start. Fresh gas, new plug, etc. How do I determine if I am getting spark to the plug and is it difficult to check the magneto or device that...

I would suggest finding an inline checker so you can visualize the spark without getting shocked for damaging the plug boot.
If your carb is working then when you take out your spark plug it should be covered with fuel. This could be a sign of no spark or it might be a sign of a dirty air filter causing an extreme rich condition. Try starting the saw with a clean plug and no air filter in place to rule this out. If it is dry you either have a fuel line issue or a blocked exhaust. Chain saws have spark arresting screens on them that can load up with unburnt fuel and oil *(from a bad carb or blocked air filter) be safe and good luck!

S45@vei am getting number 4 mifire on 97 altima po 304 code suggestions

if it has been a while since the last tune-up, then a set of plugs and plug wires are a good idea. if recently tuned up, then you may want to check the compression on the engine to make sure the cylinder is working properly.low compression can set the misfire code also.

I recently purchased a 2002 toyota tacoma 3.4 V6 4X4. 98K on it. when idleing and driving it misses heavily, when you let off the gas its smooth. any suggestions? Thanks

I would start with a tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air flter, fuel filter. any of these that you have on your vehicle. Also check or have checked the fuel pressure.

Poulan Wild Thing 18" Gas chain saw starts no problem but it runs for maybe 30 sec. then stops each time. I changed the core same thing.

Do a tune up. It is easy. Just take out the carb and clean with any commercial carb cleaner nad change the spark plug.

After starting and operating the chainsaw for a short time, it dies and I can't get it started again. Suggestions?

Engines require 3 things. Spark, compression and fuel. And chainsaw need 2-cycle oil mixed with the gas.

Assuming you have the right oil-gas mixture and a fresh batch of gas, and you didn't leave old gas in the saw all summer long since last November.

-Take off the dirty air filter and see if saw starts without filter. Do not run without putting in new filter.
-Check exhaust port for mud dobber home or screen clogged with carbon and dirt
-See if saw fires up after squirting WD-40 directly into carburetor
-Check gas line >>> pull gas line loose and see if gas flows out of tank to carburetor
-Take out spark plug > put finger over spark hole and pull cord >> do you feel suction that says you got compression?
-Put spark wire back on spark plug >>> hold spark plug so threads touch bare metal part of spark plug hole >>> pull starter cord and see if spark shows between plug and saw >>> suggest you not hold metal part of spark plug while pulling cord [you'll understand why]
-If spark plug shows spark, then your saw has spark ... so put in new plug and start fresh.

If your saw has compression, spark, and fuel it should start unless carburetor is gummed up because gas was left in tank.
Here is the final trick. Start the saw while spraying WD-40 directly into carburetor and see if you can keep it going with the WD-40. This might take a helper. If this does not work, then carburetor is bad or gas line is clogged at carburetor. Time to take it to the shop.

Can not start the ms180 chain saw, tried new plug, new gas, starting fluid etc. suggestions ran this morning, and now will not start. only been used twice

Remove the plug and then plug into plug wire. With the spark plug laying on top of engine pull the recoil a couple times and you should see spark at the plug. If all is good and there is the proper mixture of gas/oil ratio in saw then >>With trigger depressed fully and choke on, pull until it fires and then shove the choke in. /////If no spark and the saw is new, I would return to retailer.

Poulan Countervibe 3400 will not start

In all of those years, the fuel and oil lines will have deteriorated as well as the rubber components in the carburetor. The fuel filter in the tank is probably also plugged. Remove the spark plug and check for spark--it should be blue and snappy. Check the condition of the primer bulb--it should be soft without holes or cracks. Try some fuel in the cylinder head and reinstall the plug. It should pop a few times if in firing condition. Replace the air cleaner and check the muffler for plugging. Pretty much a major tune up! Hope this helps!

Engine bogs when throttling

Jamie it sounds as though you have a fuel delivery problem. What little fuel system there is can be found here: (click "Go")
On the "Handle, Chassis and Bar Assembly" drawing.
This can be caused by a dirty or loose carburetor, cracked fuel lines, dirty air filter, plugged fuel filter, old fuel mix, and a few more things that aren't coming to mind.

If you attempt a repair take extensive notes and some digital pictures as things progress.

You can get it tuned up for about $40 at a good saw shop (Stihl, Husky, Etc), They do an inspection, change the plug, and adjust the carburetor. Explain your symptoms, ask for an estimate to repair & perform a tune up. If you do this (recommended) ask what oil/fuel ratio they used. Use the same ratio until the next time you have it tuned again. HTH
