I've read this problem due to new hardware interferences with desktop computers, all they had to do is change a few pins around on the harddrives.. since this is a laptop, and is quite difficult and dodgy to access the hardware, the only other suggestion is to reinstall windows with a recovery disk, or windows CD-ROM.

Hope this helps :)

SOURCE: When I turn on my MSI M510C notebook - ''reboot and select proper

Your notebook does not see the proper boot files on your C drive. Many times the boot.ini has been corrupted.
You will need a Windows XP Install CD mounted in the CD Rom. When you boot the system you need to choose the CD as the boot device (if the notebbok does not do it by default) then typr R to enter the recovery console. Once you get the C: prompt you will need to create a new boot.ini file using the bootcfg command. See the following website for details in using the Recovery Console:

When you reboot, go to BIOS, restore factory BIOS settings. If that doesn't help, you'll need to reinstall your OS.

SOURCE: I have an HP 110 Mini

either your hard drive has been damaged or it has been disabled by the bios. Your netbook probably has a solid state hard drive. You need to get your information removed from the drive at this point and get the operating system of your choice installed. For further assistance, you can call us 24/7 at 800-595-3564.

Fatal issue: Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Issue:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device

Cause:

The boot record could not find a bootable partition so control was passed back to the BIOS. This issue occurs prior to the start of any Windows code.

It can be caused by a power-failure while the disk is in the middle of writing, a virus damaged the entry, a failing disk drive or a serious software bug damaged the partition entry (although Windows typically protects against this). This issue cannot be easily caused by any action you performed, unless you turned off the power without going through Windows shutdown.

Workaround:

1. If you had changed, added or removed hard drives, or changed or removed drive cabling, likely something is wrong. Recheck that the drives are properly installed and the cabling has not changed. Switching cables to different motherboard connectors or changing the master/slave drive jumpers (on old ATA drives) can cause this problem. In some systems, the cables were not plugged into the drive or motherboard securely and may have worked loose. Reseat all drive connectors.

2. It's also possible a hard drive is failing. Use a system diagnostic to validate the drive or swap to another hard disk.

3. If the first bootable drive is missing (disconnected or dead) the BIOS may be attempting to boot from a second disk. Confirm the primary drive is working.

Hope this will help...Your response is very much appreciated...
I dont have boot dissk for my asus f5r laptop what can i do it says reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key_

Your ASUS cannot find the hard drive to boot up.
First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

When I turn it on it says Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

Please verify if you don;t have a floppy disk in your drive. If you don't then you have to verify in BIOS if is selected proper boot device - HDD.
If everything is set then you have problem with your hard disk, must check and install new operating system.
