Question about Microwave Ovens

Microwave won't turn on anymore.

I have replaced motors for turntables before, and replaced fuses,
and it may be the fuse, but I can't find the model # on the outside
of the microwave.

The model number may be on a sticker on the inside of the cooking cavity. Or it may be on the edge of the door, or on the lip inside where the door closes.

There are three protective devices in most ovens that can cause it to be completely dead. There's a main power fuse, then two safety thermostats. One is on the cavity to shut off power if something overheats, like if food catches fire. The other is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source) to shut the oven down if the tube overheats. You can test these parts with an ohmmeter. They should be short circuits if good, open or very high resistance if bad.

While the fuse usually blows for a reason, it can sometimes just fail as can the thermostats. So if the fuse is blown, change it. Just be sure to use the same type and rating. The special microwave fuse is available at Home Depot, Lowe's and appliance parts stores. If the fuse blows again right away, there's something more serious wrong with the oven. Then you should probably just replace it unless it's a very high-end model or a built-in.

If a thermostat checks bad, they are available from appliance parts places. Take the old one along so you get the right replacement.

If you have any doubts about working on a microwave, take it to a professional for service if you want to keep it. There are potentially lethally voltages exposed with the cover off and power applied. But if you've worked on electical appliance before and are careful, there's not much to doing it yourself.

AEG MCD2664E-m - plate not turning

There is no separate fuse only for turntable motor. Usually there is two fuse, one in High Voltage section (instead fuse could be HV protect diode) and another one for 220 V (light, turntable motor, fun motor, display....). If light work normally then is turtable motor faulty.

Goldstar under counter microwave spindle won't turn

use the common sense, and logically, fix it. God bless you
Microwave Runs, Heats, but turntable does not move This is a fairly easy one. First, make sure the turntable coupler under the glass dish is not broken. Second, on the control board, find the turntable relay and test for voltage. Some turntable motors are 24 volts DC, so make sure your testing the correct voltage. If no voltage from the control board, then replace the control board. Otherwise head towards the turntable motor.
On OTR models, you can get to the motor by un-screwing the bottom panel on the microwave. On countertop models, there will either be a knockout or screw on access panel. Check for voltage at the motor. If no voltage, check the wiring back towards the control. If voltage, then replace the turntable motor. The component list below also shows how to test a turntable motor.

Replaced the touchpad and put it all back together. It now heats, but the oven light doesn't come on and the turntable doesn't rotate. Do you think there's a loose wire?

First check is the main fuse of the unit. On countertopunits, you will need to take the shell off. The fuse will be close to where thecord comes through into the unit. OTR units, this main fuse is usually behindthe control panel or possibly behind the vent. Usually the fuse is obvious ifblown, otherwise test with an OHM meter, if open, replace fuse. Some brands will also have a thermal cut-off fuse in theincoming voltage line to the control board. This thermostat looking fuse isusually above the oven cavity somewhere under the outside shell. Sometimes youcan get to it through the vent of OTR models. Test with an OHM meter, replaceif open. Forturntable: First, make sure the turntable coupler under the glass dish is notbroken. Second, on the control board, find the turntable relay and test forvoltage. Some turntable motors are 24 volts DC, so make sure you're testing thecorrect voltage. If no voltage from the control board, then replace the controlboard. Otherwise head towards the turntable motor. On OTR models, you can get to the motor by un-screwing thebottom panel on the microwave. On countertop models, there will either be aknockout or screw on access panel. Check for voltage at the motor. If novoltage, check the wiring back towards the control. If voltage, then replacethe turntable motor. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

Microwave lights, clock, and everything works except when you press start, it just counts down like its cooking, but the microwave is actually not on. No hum as usual or plate rotating. It just counts...

Hi, one of the most common reasons why the turntable won't rotate is that the microwave isn't clean. The turntable guide and carousel can get sticky, preventing the turntable from properly moving. If you have built-on food particles or liquids, fill a bowl with 2 or 3 cups of water and 1 tsp. of liquid detergent and lemon. Run the microwave for about 3 minutes. Clean the microwave with a cloth, including the base of the turntable, guide, carousel grooves and microwave base. Your microwave turntable won't rotate if the grooves on the base of the turntable do not sit right on the carousel. Also, check the position of the turntable guide. Place the guide directly under the turntable. Remove the turntable, and then reposition it into the carousel grooves.
Motor The carousel motor is located beneath the base plate of the microwave. If the carousel isn't turning at all, check the motor. Disconnect the microwave from the power source, and remove the turntable, guide and base plate. Try turning the motor to see if it's just stuck. If it doesn't turn freely after a few seconds, examine the motor to see if it's burned out or corroded. Use an ohmmeter to see if the motor has continuity. If not, you must replace the motor.
Bushings The drive bushings are plastic components that sit underneath the cooking plate. Remove the plate, and examine the bushings. Use a magnifying glass if necessary to see if any debris is caught in the plastic. Clean the bushings, and reinsert the plate. Turn the microwave on to see if it rotates. If the bushings are extremely worn or if some of the plastic is broken off, you need to replace it, which is a complicated repair for consumers. Contact a service technician for assistance.

Turntable on Amana microwave does not turn anymore.

If the oven is still heating, but the carousel isn't turning, this problem is commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and may need to be replaced. The motor is attached to the center plastic piece (called a turntable shaft, turntable ring or coupler) under the middle of the glass tray. The following link explains how to access and replace the motor:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price range will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifying the part(s) you may need.

The average price for a motor is about $35 to $45. The coupler is less than $10. If you have any questions, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Grinding noise from turning platter mechanism - Kenmore #63252

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

GE turntable microwave Je1540WW 002 Turntable doesn't turn

I have had the turn table motor go defective in microwave ovens.

Normaly, before ordering a new motor, I always checked to make sure that there was power going to the motor assembly. I never had a power drive failure to a motor so-far. When they did not spin, the motor was defective. But, one day there will be a first time for me.

The fix was to purchase a new motor from the manufacture and install it. In some cases, I had to also replace the spindle key because the original broke when trying to remove it when removing the motor assembly.

I suggest that for servicing a microwave oven, you give it out to a service center to have the work done. There are safety issues when working on microwave ovens.
