Re miele t4222c tumble dryer
When it's turned on it runs for about 5 seconds then trips the electric.... Any advice please
Caution: never enter an appliance internals with power applied!!!
You can die if you ignore this!!! You are dealing with 220 Volts!!!
My first check would be to open the unit & check for accumulated lint. The motor may be starved for cooling air (happened to me with my son's dryer). If so, get the vacuum & clean it thoroughly. Then find out why lint accumulated inside so it will not happen again.
My next check would be the dryer exhaust pipe. You can chase out accumulated lint with a simple brush tool from the corner hardware store and an electric drill. (You should do this yearly anyway).
If everything looks well inside, you need to decide if it is the heater element or the motor that is tripping the breaker. With power unplugged, disconnect the heating coil & tape the hot lead(s) with electrical tape.
Reconnect power & turn the unit on. If it trips the breaker, the motor is your problem. If it runs, the heating coil is your problem.
If it is the motor, order a replacement online.
If it is the heating coil, inspect it to insure it has not decided to short out on warming up (and tripping the breaker.) You could easily enough replace the coil online if needed, but simple mechanical actions may suffice.
When it runs, reassemble & replace the unit.
