    Dear e-Guru;

No I DO NOT accept this as a solution to my problem. The information you 've provided is common knewlege. I know a repairman will charge X amount of dollars to fix this, but my request to you is to be put on the right track to begin trouble shooting this problem. As with the info I've already supplied I do have some expericence in trouble shooting electronics. Both the conv. bd & the pwr supply bd have been repaired by a service center. Flyback resoldering was no help. Give me something to go with. Bandy

You must be working with another RCA model. This model #R56WH78, chassis #ITC222A DOES NOT have these ICs. Nor does the pwr bd. This conv bd have a series of transistors of the TO 220 three leg type, all checked good. Willie.

You are correct in that the set-up step you suggested in solution #2 Do Not apply to my set. Additionally; a review of my original problem, no convergence, you will note that there is NO pwr (voltages) on the convergence bd or the conv. pwr bd. Requesting info on solving this problem. Willie

First, take a look at the following web site information. Unfortunately, some RCA sets have manual convergence boards - which means you can do nothing but replace it and adjust the manual controls on the board itself.

But some of the newer ones (Maybe yours) can be accessed through the service mode. So, give it a try. I have also copied the part of the web site that gives the entry code to get into the service mode:

Read the _ SERVICE MODE WARNING _ before proceeding.

To enter service mode, push and hold the [Menu] button on the set. While holding, push and release the [Power] button, then the [Vol +] button.

You will now have some information on the screen: "P0 V0"

To actually be able to change these values, you must push [Vol +] on the remote so the information reads V76. Then pushing on the Channel +/- will change the "P" value.

P1 - 3 are error codes. If there is a problem with the set that can be self-diagnosed, the "V" will report the code. These codes are available in the RCA repair manual.

P4 - 7 control the horizontal size, shift, vertical size and shift.

You may also find a summary leaflet for the service tech clipped somewhere inside the chassis. The procedures for getting into the service mode, as well as the service items of interest will be there.

If you're attempting to adjust color or geometry errors, you'll need the Video Essentials DVD, Laser Disc or some other source of test material.

With luck, you MIGHT be able to adjust it back into better alignments.

If you end up needing service, the price of the convergence board - if you can get it from RCA Parts - should not be over $100, but I have not actually checked it lately - and it depends on the model.

The installation is quite time consuming, so it may take a couple of hours for a tech to install and align it.
I encourage you to look elsewhere the RCA web site has a link to authorized service centers; you might try that.

Wishing you the best,

thanks.keep updated.

On the convergence board there are two ICs .the number of the ICs are 392------ 100 or if the ICs are little bit latest the number will be 392------- 120.there are two such ICs on the convergence board.and both the ICs have to be replaced to resolve the problem.
you can get the ICs at
replace the ICs and it will start working.if not familiar with it then get it replaced by a technician.the cost of ICs is not more then $40 for both.
please do rate the session.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

Yes on the Fly back transformer solder all the pins , this can take care of about 90 present of the problems on the model.

The problem is with the convergence. If the focus did not correct the problem likely the convergence IC's have failed and will need to be replaced along with a few defective resistors. A TV repair company will normally charge about $350 for this repair. This is a very common problem with this TV set
. There could be other parts that are not within factory specs. The only way to be positive of the problem is to have the circuitry diagnosed by someone with the proper TV test equipment to determine what parts that are no longer within specs. A small TV repair shop will many times be less expensive than a large repair facility.

The Deflection Power board is the the most likeliest cause of the dead set issue, and that could have also caused the prior issue of convergence board since the deflection board supplies all base voltages for the convergence circuits

Colored lines on top portion of screen with blurry colored picture

This is due to a faulty convergence power supply or voltage supply to the convergence board, first thing to check is the deflection board this the board to the right of the unit look at if from the back.
Check all connection on the flyback and resolder is any cold solder joints are found. Also there are tree micro fuses the may of blown if there are any bad connection around the flyback.

Have a yellow and blue hazw from left to righton the people and lettering rca 56 inch tv

Hi: this is dur to convergence board failure, there a three micro fuses on the deflection board power suppply that need checking, also while checking these fuses check the solder connections around your flyback transformer as this is the most common reason these fuses fail. If all fuses are good then a replacement of the convergence Board is necessary at this point.

Convergence problem

Yes, the convergence circuit can fail without blowing any fuses. These Tvs are tough to repair because the convergence output devices are transistors and there will be other small components damaged as well. Get an estimate from a reputable service center before going any further.

Convergence on a r56wh78 rca projection tv

I located the problem with this set and wanted to pass it on to help anyone with this problem. the chassis # is ITC222A and the problem turned out to be a fuse on the High voltage board. There are 3 fuses that sit next to the flyback transformer and the middle fuse (400 ma 125v) was blown.

Try looking at the main board very near the flyback and you should see 3 fuse links (they look like hard capacitors) one of them is probably open causing lack or power to the convergence board by way of the ribbon seated close to the vertical output IC
