Question about Whirlpool duet Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a whirlpool duet (wfw94hexx) and washed a heavy load and now have a long drainage error (F01E09) and have also had a SUDS error. I have taken apart the machine, cleaned out the drain trap (had a couple of quarters, pebbles), drain hose, and checked most of the electrical plugs. I am not able to get it into diagnostics mode. Do you think that I need to replace the drain or control panel?

Replace the pump first, empellers could be broken and not pumping water out fast enough

I have a Whirlpool Duet Washer I bought new a few years ago, after some sand got into our water lines from a well pump issue we have had several issues with the washer. The latest is that even while the unit is turned off the cold water flows rapidly into the washer causing an eventual overflow. Does that sound like a faulty pressure switch to you? I have already replaced the pump solenoid on the unit.

the sand has damaged the water inlet valves (hot and cold), replace them with new

  • Rodney Owen Nov 24, 2013

I did that once, would it be faulty again? Would anything else cause the water to flow uncommanded and constantly with the power to the unit off?

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer will not drain - F-21 error

Perfect! Yes, they aer 1/4" 6pt screws. I didn't have to lift my washer, but the previous tech had put in 1 screw crooked, so that was FUN! I had cut out an opening on an old cracked tote and was able to hold all the water as long as I transferred some to a bunch of tupperware. Make sure you line up the upper mark on the white drain plug before putting back in. The tote was getting overloaded and I didn't notice the alignment marks until after having some water overflow. Just a heads-up if anyone has an emergency and HAS to get the plug back in in a hurry.

I found:
Wife's Victoria's Secret panties
2 dimes
4 pennies
some legos
a metal nut
pencil eraser
wall anchor

SOURCE: whirlpool duet washer sport ht - error codes

FYI: The pump cleanout is located on the front of the machine, bottom right corner. There are only three screws holding the bottom cover on. It is easy to get to if you prop it up a few inches off the ground. Just thought this would be helpful as I just did this as of 5 min ago. Should take 10 min. or less.

SOURCE: Suds error then F35 at the beginning of the was cycle

I too have a Whirlpool Duet Steam Washer that is just 13 months old and had this same problem. If you have searched the internet about this you have probably noticed that there are quite a few people out there with the same problem. It is the analog pressure sensor switch. I was lucky enough to find one that I received last Friday. It is an easy fix if you're not afraid to attempt it yourself.....the problem you will probably have is finding the part. I searched several parts stores and everyone had them on a 3 to 4 week backorder, but I got lucky and found ONE in stock. If you remove the top of the washer by removing the 3 screws that hold it on in the back and sliding it off, you can see the pressure switch on the right/rear side of the washer. To remove the switch you have to remove the wires that plug into the switch and then turn the switch and pop it out of the side...the replacement just snaps back in the same way. My husband replaced the switch in probably less than 5 minutes and my washer is back up and running. Good luck finding the part (W10156252). I did write a letter to Whirlpool stating that this seems to be an on-going problem with these washers and that if they cannot reimburse the consumer in some way, the least they could do is make this part more readily accessible. Good luck.

SOURCE: f-21 error, washer not draining

I have had this code three separate times. The first time service man came and cleaned out the filter. This is behind the lower front panel and can be removed by hand. The cartridge style filter is located at the pump in the lower right of the unit. Have something available to catch the draining water as you loosen the filter. The second time I received this code I found a blockage in the drain hose at its bend. The third time no hose blockage, no filter clogging, but the pump impeller was jammed by an elastic strap that had made it through the filter. I removed it through the supply side of the pump seen after filter is removed.

Code letters of sud came up during last spin cycle what is this and how do I fix it it will not finish spin cycle and clothes are heavy and drenched

This is a Suds Detect error code. The following link explains the error and potential causes:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608687-sud_error

The number one cause of the error is from using too much, or the wrong type of detergent. You are required to High Efficiency (HE) detergent with these washers because the concentration is formulated for HE washers that use small amounts of water. Using the wrong type of detergent can also void any warranty you may have.

NOTE: HE detergent does not have a lot of suds, which often confuses consumers into thinking they aren't using enough detergent. With HE washers little to no suds if normal and preferred.

Secondary causes can come from something restricting the drainage system. Most notably, something lodged in the drain pump and/or drain hose(s). I've included a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump reservior if required.

Read through the link provided and let me know if you still have questions. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool duet sport machine will stop mid-cycle and all lights will flash and d5 will show on display

The display is actually reading "Sd", which is a Suds detect error. This is an indication that you have either used too much detergent, are using the wrong type of detergent, or you have an obstruction somewhere in the drainage system. The following link explains the error code and how to correct it:

There is a follow-on link included that explains the steps necessary to check the drain pump reservoir. Read through the information provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps you.

F 02 error code on display board the Whirlpool Duet front load washer. Checked the drainage filter and line and it does drain just fine with the wet vac with no blockages noted. Does this sound like the...

"F02" is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be generated as a secondary error. This is an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
2. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
3. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump
