Before I give you an answer is it just coming on and going off or is it staying on? you have the wx channel on that radio and when it receives power from any device to the radio the wx channel will come on and turn off immediately.Nothing wrong with the radio it is just a pain in the rear ,thats all.

My power supply mess up and started smoking now my magnum delta force cb is messing up when i turn it on the swr meter will light up but no sound and frequency counter wont light up any clue

Smoking means something died, possibly in the power supply so the result is incorrect or no power to the internal boards of the unit. Take for repair or replace the unit.

check your PA/CB switch and your microphone connection, I don't know this specific radio, but these are the two primary items that can cause this issue on most cb radios.

When i que my mic the display light shows no antenna light unless im touching the antenna i tried this on 2 different trucks

The mounting and adjusting of the antenna is crucial,if it is a magnet mount, the surface must be clean, dry and best to not have any rust, also bottom of the magnet needs to be clean and mount it to the largest area of metal on the vehicle...the trunk lid, middle of your roof are the best.Permanent mounts need to be touching bare metal at the mounting hole not paint, again either mount requires SWR adjustments to match the radio it's attached to,it may require trimming of the metal"whip" if it needs to be lowered for the best reading, also don't rule out the radio chassis might need to be grounded as well. For general safety I would not recommend touching an antenna while it is transmitting any radio signal...if all above is good, you transmit and receive fine, more likely light is faulty or needs it's sensitivity adjusted...Good luck, hope this info helps.

My ANT light comes on when ever i push the mic button but my SWR isnt that high

The meter will be more accurate and an external meter will be even better. If they show good disregard the ant light it is adjustable. It may have been set to sensitive from factory. These erroneous SWR reading can be the side effects of a PEAK & TUNE if the coils have been spread but that should also show on meter.
SWR meter calibrations
  • Switch (S/RF SWR CAL) to the CAL position.
  • Push and hold mic button
  • While holding mic button adjust the SWR CAL knob so the meter needle swings to the CAL mark on the meter
  • While still holding down the mic button, set the (S/RF SWR CAL) switch to the SWR position, to read the SWR reading. Note: When switched to SWR position the meter needle should ideally be as far to the left as possible. Anything over 3 is not acceptable.

I've got a Cobra 29 with WX and BT, the antenna light comes on, the swr meter barely moves and it doesn't seem to send or receive, still gets weather. May have been run with a bad antenna, got a new...

Please make sure you are tuning the antenna correctly.

It is important to tune your CB radio antenna to the proper length. The length must exactly match the wavelength of the frequency you transmit on. Or be really really close.

All Cb antenna's have a way to adjust the length of the antenna. If it's a mag mount, the metal whip can be slid in and out of a metal collar. Usually a set screw. If its a fiberglass whip, the way to tune it is on top. It either has a small metal rod with a set screw to adjust the length, or it threads in and out to adjust length.

Either type you have it will need to be adjusted for proper length. Here is how to tune the antenna to lowest SWR.

Some radios have a built in SWR meter. Some do not. If yours doesn't have an SWR meter, then you have to use an external SWR meter. Radio shack carries one, and you can find them cheap on ebay.

If you have a built in SWR meter or external, the procedure is the same:

1. Turn the radio to CH 20.(This is the center of the band.)
2. Switch the meter switch to CAL. (CAL stand for calibrate.
3. Key the radio. (Important. Do not talk while keying the radio.)
4. turn the CAL knob up until the meter hits the CAL mark.
5. Now while still keying the radio flip the meter switch to SWR.

Where the meter falls after that point is you SWR reading. If its above 3, that is real bad. 2 is not gonna kill your radio but its not the greatest. 1.5 and under is a good place to be, but the lower the better.

If your SWR is high, Here is how to find out if your antenna is too long or too short.

1. Turn to CH 1
2. Repeat SWR procedure. You must calibrate every time you do it.
3. Remember the SWR reading.
4. Turn to CH 40.
5. Again repeat SWR procedure.
6. Compare the reading between CH 1 and CH 40.

Now if the SWR is higher on channel 1 then channel 40 your antenna is too short. You must make it longer.

If the SWR is longer on channel 40 then on channel 1, then the antenna is too long, you need to make it shorter.

Make height adjustments about an eight inch at a time, and take reading each time.

once the SWR is significantly lower and the reading on channel 1 and 40 are about the same, you a about matched. At this point turn the radio to the center of the band, channel 20 and take an SWR reading.

You should now have a low SWR reading, 1.5 or under. If you are 1.5 or under, you are good to go.

If you cannot get the SWR to an appropriate level, there may be an antenna problem.

Now: If you have adjusted the antenna properly and you still get the antenna warning light, then the antenna warning circuit may be out of whack. Use an external SWR meter.

You may also be getting common mode current. Its when RF comes down the outside of the coax. If the swr goes up with modulation then it's common mode.

Here is how to stop common mode.

As close to the antenna as you can while still inside the vehicle, take about 6 to 8 inches of the coax, and coil it up into tight even coils and secure into shape with electrical tape.

This is an RF choke, and will stop the common mode current.

If all other radio's are fine and no ant light come one, and are all showing low swr, then turn VR6 back to disable the ant warning light. "only do this if the ant light comes on when SWR is lower then 1.5 and does not swing up with modulation showing that the ant warning light is miss aligned.

29 LTD CB Radio: Calibrate cb radio...

The CAL is to calibrate meter for reading SWR (standing wave ratio) which is reflected power when transmitting back to receiver(radio) from antenna system.
This CAL switch position when selected and mic keyed uses the CAL knob to align the meter needle with inverted red triangle next to cal on meter. Then when you select SWR switch position meter will display accurately when mic is keyed for that channel. Now notice the difference when you go between channels 1 and 40. The ant led light will act as idiot light if it is not lit then you are most likely safe to transmit.
I say system because your vehicle, antenna and coaxial cable are all part of this system. When you have a high reading and have to trim you antenna this is really calibrating the antenna to the vehicles body which acts as a ground plane.

Cobra 29 NW LTD Classic wont calibrate and red antenna light keeps coming on

The calibrate knob only calibrates the radios SWR meter, the owners manual will show you the procedure for that. If your ANT light is coming on, it is telling you that your SWR is to high, and may cause damage to the radio from reflected power. You should purchase an in line meter as the radios internal meter may be somewhat unreliable. You need to tune the antenna to the lowest SWR possible. Typically anything under 2.0:1 is acceptable. Radio Shack sells a meter for about $50, and is pretty accurate. Antenna mounting can also cause high reflection if it is to close to other objects. Google "CB antenna tuning" or read the instruction manual for you antenna, and you should be able to figure out how to properly tune the antenna.
