Question about Imation Apollo Expert M300 Hard Drive
It sounds like your hard drive went out. That's what you get when you use an optical drive. You should take it to a data recovery center if you hope to retrieve any info. Luckily you're in the 2nd millennium and we have technology such as sd cards and solid state drives today. They are silent, no moving parts (that's your spinning sound) , and rugged so they can't break on you. I would invest in one and you'll never have to worry about data loss in the future. They run about a dollar a GB

Either the USB ports on your computer are not working
(try some other USB device in those ports to disprove this)
or the USB ports are supplying insufficient voltage/amperage to your Imation device,
such that it does not operate.

With any luck, it may just be due to a loose cable or connection inside. You need to open the unit and make sure everything is properly connected.
