Hi, I also experienced this issue before with my CX8400 that connected to Windows Vista 32-bit OS, what I did is I trash, download the updated from http:// support.epson.com and installed it. I also check if there is conflict in the device manager, I checked imaging device and other device when I saw my stylus scanner in imaging device and has a question mark - I update the driver. last thing that I did before I make this dinosaur to work I restart WIA (windows image aquisition) service - its under administrative tool , services. When I try to scan, beautiful Its like magic, it scan successfully.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones). click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Good luck!

The software won't load if there are some incompatibilities with W10 which is highly likely when it was designed to work with former versions of Windows. You may have printer and scanning issues also.
I would dump W10 and restore the original Windows system you had before. Save all your files to another device(or you will lose them) and run a factory default restore and that should reinstall the original operating system on your computer. Any software you loaded will disappear when you do this. When that is done you will be able to load your software without it quitting on you.
I would reinstall the program to get the icons back. It may be that the path of the icon is incorrect. If that doesnot fix the issue try these steps
First, please make sure that you have the latest firmware and drivers available for your CD/DVD-ROM drive. This can be done by visiting the CD/DVD-ROM manufacturers website.
Then, clear out your C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory (this is a storage area where files are stored before they are installed). Delete everything in this file, and your problem may be solved completely.
If this does not work, you may also need to clear out your Internet cache (temporary Internet files):
(Internet Explorer) 1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. Click on Tools -> Internet Options. 3a. In IE6 - Click on the 'Delete Files...' button on the Genral Tab 3b. In IE7 - Click on the 'Delete' button under the Browsing History section of the General Tab.
(Mozilla Firefox) 1. Open Firefox. 2. Click on Tools -> Options 3. Click on the Advanced tab -> Network Tab. 4. Click on the 'Clear Now' button under the Cache section.
- Empty your recycle bin
- Run Scandisk 1. Click Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools 2. Select Scandisk 3. Select your hard drive. If you have more than one, you should scan each drive individually. 4. Click Standard 5. Check Automatically fix errors. 6. Click Start
- Run Defrag 1. Click Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools 2. Select Disk Defragmenter 3. Select the hard drive you wish to defrag and click ok.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for visiting FixYa for your solutions.

HP Photosmart C4380 Direct Scan button doesnt function in VISTA
Use the built-in feature of the Windows operating system, called Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), instead of the HP software to scan. Follow these steps to perform a WIA scan.
Make sure that the product is on and that the cable is correctly connected.
Click Start , and then click Control Panel .
Click Printers and Other hardware , and then click Scanners and Cameras .
Look for an icon representing the product, and then review the following information for further instructions:
Double-click the icon to start the Scanner and Camera Wizard . Follow the on-screen instructions to scan images or documents to the computer
If the WIA scan was successful , use the Scanner and Camera Wizard to scan instead of the HP software. To use the HP software, continue to the next step to continue troubleshooting. However, it is not necessary to do so.
If the WIA scan was unsuccessful , continue to the next solution.
Fully uninstall and reinstall the HP software
Follow these steps to completely uninstall and then reinstall the HP software.
Step one: Uninstall the software
Use one of the following methods to uninstall the software.
Method one: Uninstall the software using the product CD
If the product software CD is available, follow these steps to uninstall the software. Otherwise, skip to the next method.
Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive on the computer.
If the Welcome installation screen appears, click Exit to close it.
On the Windows task bar, click Start , and then click Run ( ). The Run dialog box appears.

Click Browse . The Browse window appears.
Navigate to the CD-ROM drive that the software CD is in, and then double-click the drive.
From the list of folders and files on the CD, double-click the Util folder.
From the list of folders and files inside the Util folder, double-click the CCC folder.
From the list of folders and files inside the CCC folder, double-click the Uninstall_L3.bat file or Uninstall_L3_64.bat if a 64-bit operating system is installed on the computer.
The Browse dialog box closes, and the path to the Uninstall _L3.bat file appears in the Run dialog box.
Figure 5: Uninstall file path in the Run dialog box
Click OK . The software uninstaller opens in a command prompt window.
Press Enter to begin the uninstall.
Method two: Download and uninstall the software
If the software CD is not available, follow these steps to download the software and then uninstall it.
It appears your orignal download was corrupt. I would suggest you go control panel and using add/remove programs, you uninstall or remove. I suggest a restart after this. Once it is gone, download the program again and reinstall. If the problem is still there, look for a different download site. I would also recommend you run a security scan soon, as the corruption may have given you some hidden virus or spyware. Good Luck!
