Question about Dometic Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Dometic 2913 and like many others it works fine on both AC and DC but has stopped cooling on propane. I cleaned the flue, the flue baffle, the burner and the jet and still no cooling. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Was the end of the spiral flue baffle burned up? If it was it could be disrupting the air flow which will not allow it to reach the proper temperature. Does the flame stay lit or does it go out after a while? If it is going out after a while the thermo-switch that detects high heat may be shutting it down due to the flame being too hot. Testimonial: "Thanks for the advice. Yes the spiral baffle is clean and the flame stays lit. I once again cleaned the burner and noticed the smaller holes adjacent to the larger hole on top of the burner were plugged. Once I cleaned them the refrigerator cooled like new."

The baffle was cleaned and yes the flame stays lit. I tried cleaning the burner and jet again. This time Inoticed the small holes on the top of the burner adjacent to the larger hole were plugged. Once I cleaned them the refrigerator cools like new.

Dometic RM2611, Freezes fine, Refrig OK on AC, but warms up when on LP gas. Can I safely increase the orifice size from #53 to #58? Thinking that will increase the flame and produce more heat.

Check the gas regulator and the lines for particles of dirt. You have modified the refrigerator it is going to take some work to find what is wrong. Don't modify the orifice from what it calls for.

Freezer works fine on propane but not the fridge

You may wish to check the flue clear anything that you find. Old birds next etc. Also make sure the flame and orifice are clean free from debris or rust. Propane should burn blue not orange. Incorrect gas setting if the flame is orange. Some yellow at the tip is ok. Proper adjustments are critical. Have you tried the unit on AC?
Other tips I have read indicate possible freezing in the back.
Defrost freezer completely as some here mentioned and restart see if this helps. Here is a good RV forum I saw good tips worth investigating.

If your not comfortable cleaning the jets and adjusting the flame have a professional do this. Safety comes first!
Good luck!

Fridge does not get cold during propane gas function only. Upper Freezer section does. Whole unit does perform and freeze and cold function fine with electric and generator function. Why only during...

According to the manual the following is the most likely items to cause that failure. But since it is only in the frigerator section and not the freezer section it could be the lower circuit board.

LP Gas

Orifice

Flue Baffle

Flue Tube

Burner

Lower Circuit Board

I have a Dometic 2193 3 way fridge. It works

The flue baffle was the solution that worked for me as well. Below is a response I posted to a similar post.

------

I had a similar problem. The flue would get hot and the cooling tubes would get "warm". The refrig would get a LITTLE cool but nothing to be of any help.

I solved it though...it turns out there is a "flue baffle" (twisty little metal thing) that is supposed to hang in the inside of the baffle. It hangs from a screw found on top of the baffle and it is supposed to hang down.

The screw that held mine was corroded and flue baffle had fallen into the baffle and landed on top of the burner.

I ended up fishing the flue baffle out of the top of the baffle with a coat hanger, then rehanging it using a new screw. That solved my problem.

Not sure if this will work for you or not but good luck.

By the way, you can find an owner's manual with a diagram showing the flue, the flue baffle, and the piece of metal holding it here:

http://www.fourwheelcampers.com/DometicRefrigerator.pdf

Look on p.9, figure 9. Item C is the flue baffle and the wire holding it. Item B is the screw that was corroded on mine, and ended up dropping the baffle down to the bottom of the flue.

Below is a link to some generic directions on solving fridge-related problems. I found it to be VERY useful.

Refridgerator won't cool on propane. Lights fine and stays lit. Stack gets hot. Coils are warm. Works fine on AC and DC.

Help! In 2006 I purchased a used RV with a dometic model 2408 refrigerator that did not work. After reading up on Absorption refrigerators and repair facilities I had it rebuilt by RV Mobile in Everett,...

The evaporator coil is usually located in the freezer compartment, and there are ducts with dampers that send cool air to the refrigerator. It sounds to me like that may be your problem. It seems that if you move the appliance around a little, (cleaning it and the like), then for a short period you start to get a semblance of cooling. Hope this helps
