Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories
Has been making this noise for over two months getting louder every now and then....auto body specialist said it might be exhaust cap. I would like to try to repair it myself. noise is louder with acceleration, quiter while idling.
How about a spun bearing

I agree with RJ Keck before deciding on fixing it yourself you first have to find the problem most of the time it is easier and cheaper in the long run to just take it in to a muffler shop and have them do it as it may need specialty tools such as impact air tools or even welding or cutting torch.. Some things are best left for the professionals to fix less headaches .. Good Luck

Obviously an exhaust leak, but you'll never find it by walking around the outside of the car. Why didn't you at least open the hood and trace the location of the sound that way?
Cracked exhaust manifold and/or blown gaskets.
Rotted EGR tube (if equipped).
Loose or damaged front exhaust pipe and/or catalytic converter.
