I agree with RJ Keck before deciding on fixing it yourself you first have to find the problem most of the time it is easier and cheaper in the long run to just take it in to a muffler shop and have them do it as it may need specialty tools such as impact air tools or even welding or cutting torch.. Some things are best left for the professionals to fix less headaches .. Good Luck

Obviously an exhaust leak, but you'll never find it by walking around the outside of the car. Why didn't you at least open the hood and trace the location of the sound that way?

Possibilities:
Cracked exhaust manifold and/or blown gaskets.
Rotted EGR tube (if equipped).
Loose or damaged front exhaust pipe and/or catalytic converter.

First thing I would do is take it to an exhaust pipe shop. Almost every one of them will inspect it for free. possible rotted hole in exhaust front pipe. Do you get any exhaust smell in car esp. when sitting idle?

All good comments. Don't even try to repair yourself, the exhaust repair shops are far cheaper than you may think, and much more reliable unless you really have a hankering to do the job over and over again.

check condition and tension of drive belt. The noise may be from failing relief valves in the system so have it checked out by an accredited steering specialist shop.

1996 Ford Explorer front end makes noises after putting it in 4wd lo and red lining the engine, whats wrong with it?

You have to be in park or be in drive or moving slowly to
engage 4 wd

You can not have the trans in neutral to use 4wd or have the
transfer in neutral to shift trans

Either combo you grind gears in trans or transfer

The freezer sounds louder than normal, where the icemaker is. Turned icemake off but still louder. The icemaker, water and freezer still seem to be working fine.

There are only two other parts in the freezer that can make noisei if your icemaker is off. The evaporator fan motor makes noise when ice builds up around it, and the blades start hitting the ice. It also makes noise when the bearings start to fail on the motor. Rarely, the evaporator will make noise when the freon is pumped through it, we will get all kinds of strange noises. This is not a problem usually as long as your termperatures are fine. To check these items out, you will have to remove the icemaker and the back inside panel in the freezer. With it off, you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. If it is a bad evaporator fan motor, replace it. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

take the wheel and drum off the back and check that the shoes are not worn out on the edges..what happens is the end wears off first but as pressure is applied the shoe moves to where there is some pad left..severe brake dust can do it too. get the brakes checked as soon as you can.to clean and adjust the rear brakes is not that expensive.
