Hi,

Make sure that you are running the latest version of Silverlight, first uninstall any other version from your Control Panel > Programs and Features and then try to install it again. If you still get problems with the installation then run the Silverlight cleanup from http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/C/9/6C970550-32AB-4235-9CDD-7FC9DD848BBB/silverlight.diagcab

If after running the Microsft FixIt you still have issues then reply here with the exact error messages you get.

To watch a movie on my desktop using Netflix, do I have to download Silverlight?

Netflix has started using HTML 5 protocols for their video, but it is not available on all platforms yet. You can check out the site below to see if your OS/Browser setup works with HTML5. If not then you will need to install silverlight.

How can get netflix to play on my labtop?

  1. Clear browser cookies
Your browser may be referencing an out-dated or corrupted setting in the cookie file.
    1. Go to netflix.com/clearcookies to clear the Netflix cookie. This will sign you out of Netflix.com.
    2. Select Netflix Home, then Member Sign In to log back in and play your movie or TV show again.
  2. Restart your browser
Sometimes restarting your browser can clear this issue.
    • Quit your browser, restart it, and play your movie or TV show again.
  3. Try another browser
A browser extension, plug-in or add-on may be causing this error. Try playing your movie or TV show in another browser.
    • If you're unable to play your movie or TV show in multiple browsers, there may be a problem with the Silverlight Plug-in used by Netflix.com.

You can update silverlight for free with Microsoft. Your computer needs the program to stream the programs.
It has nothing to do with Netflix, although the program is needed on your computer, to let Netflix (or any other movie program) work correct.

I am running netflix com, but told i must use silverlight explorer to do this. can you tell me how to do this without silverlight to run with netflix?

You cannot watch Netflix without Silverlight, that is how it streams the video. The download is free and completely safe, it is a Microsoft product.

We are ttying to "stream" and cannot connect to netflix

Hello.
To stream on Netflix your Netflix account has to be set up to stream.
For Netlix user's your account would be either streaming OR playing DVDs, not both.
If your Netflix is set up to stream, you may need to download Microsoft Silverlight which is free and availble from Microsoft.
Be sure to download the latest version of Silverlight.

You will also need to open Netflix.com and create an account on your computer.

Close netflix and reopen after creating account then login.
Then check your account for streaming or DVD playing.

Depending on why kind of TV you have to watch a movie you will need to connect to the TV with an HDMI cable.

Netflix problems

HI,

First, I would try and clean the cash for whatever Browser you are using for Netflix. Then (if that didn't work) I would try to watch Netflix in a different Browser to see if that works.

You might also wan't to make sure that you have all the latest updates from Windows, Silverlight and your Browser of choice.

If it works in a different Browser, then something might be broken in your original Browser... or something is wrong with their software... which usually fixes itself in time.

Windows 7/IE 10 & 11 have a number of glitches when it comes to online stuff. Most, usually have to do with basic setting and software conflicts.

Unfortunately Netflix and Silverlight are not any of the ones I have heard about.

If you have a Netflix compatible Mac, the Silverlight plug-in will automatically install when you try to watch your first movie. It is possible that you have a PowerPC (PPC) Mac which in turn is too old for online video streaming. PowerPC Mac's will have great difficulty or the outright inability to use streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc. Check out the link I provide, and go to the "System Requirements" tab to see if your Mac meets the minimum. There is no "hack" or any other method that will make it work on a PowerPC Mac, it's just time for a newer computer. Get Silverlight Microsoft Silverlight
