SOURCE: how to check the backlight life of my hp l1706

Claimed life for the lamp is 50,000 Hours, but in real life, no way to tell. You can look here what is failed in the backlight lamps, it can be from worn out (blacken ends is one sign of bad lamps, same as home fluorescent lamp), poor soldering works on the lamps. see pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
What is the problem with your monitor anyway?

SOURCE: My monitor HP L1706 does

Your screen is in sleep mode.
Its does not receive a signal from the pc.
Check for loose connections or a damaged cable.

Your monitor could also have a defect internal.
Maybe also your graphic card in the pc.

Good luck.

My HP Monitor Model No: L1706 problem

I sure sounds like you have backlight problem, since when the VGA cable is connected the power LED turns GREEN and blinks when VGA cable is disconnected, it means the video signal is getting to the monitor OK, so more likely the problem will be in the monitor, but just to be sure, you should also try this monitor with another PC first.
Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed HP and other monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

HP L1706- screen is blank when I switch on

First if you have a extra monitor try to plug it in and see if it works. If not then check your video card. or get into the computer and try and remove and reseat the memory. Sometimes by just doing that can solve the problems
