Your drum has disconnected from the rail in the dryer. Sometime a bolt can work its way out and the drun can get off track. Remove back of dryer and see if you can get the drum on its track and see if you can find the reason why it came off.

Leslea,
You might check your lid switch for the washer. It sounds like the controls are thinking the lid is still up and that will normally not allow the agitation and spin to work properly.

The agitator in my Whirlpool Washer (Model 17BJ1V0(4C)sounds like it's off track or a piece is broken. It's definitely not agitating smoothly...but it still works. What can do? Thank you!

If this is a top load washer, you probably have an issue with the "drive coupling assembly" (took the place of a drive belt). Contact an appliance service company.

Washer keeps spinning. doesn't move to next cycle

Hi,
It sounds like the agitator , air bell or transmission is failing. Since the unit spins the belt & motor is ok. I recommend removing & inspecting the agitator & air bell. If they are not stripped out then you have a transmission failure.
Or, start the washer at the beginning of a cycle set to the lowest water level. After the unit fills it should be agitating stop the washer. Open the lid & try moving the agitator, if the agitator will not move it is good & no need to remove for inspection. You have a bad transmission. If the agitator moves easily then we know that the agitator or air bell is stripped out & will need to be inspected for confirmation before replacing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Washer model PAVT244AWW agitation noise

Sounds like the motor is going bad. It will only get louder before it finally stops. There is a device that assists the agitation motion that may be bad or is going bad.

Kenmore stack washer and dryer

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.

From the sounds of things, you are talking about a front loading dryer. The agitators in the dryer can get coins stuck inside them. Remove the top and rotate the drum to reveal the screws which hold the agitators to the drum. Remove the screws and the agitators, empty the coins or other debris and reinstall.

The loud squeal sounds like the pad under the open side of the drum is worn out. There may also be a dry main bearing in the rear of the dryer. Lubricate the bearing and reinstall the drum. The squeal should disappear.

If this is not a dryer or a front loading washer, none of these suggestions will apply, Sorry
