I got this Sony KP-57WS500 57 in TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment. Here is the Link to the REPAIR GUIDE.

KP-65WV600 Red and Green Lamps fade out after about 15 seconds

Hi, if the tubes fade from full brilliance to black over a few seconds, the possible sounds like dry joints in the CRT heater circuits. possibly caused by dry joints (bad solder joints). Most repairs involving rear projection TV's can be a pig (mainly relating to access to work on the circuit boards)

I have blue arched lines and blue screen

Your problem is the blue CRT or picture has gone bad, you will need to have the picture replaced, there are three tubes in this model rear projection television. Red, Green, and Blue. Replaceing the blue tube is the only option for normal operation to resume. It may be hard to find the tube, but you can try contacting this website for the part, they manufacture and usually have stocks of sony picture tubes and rebuilt ones as well. The company's name is Video Display Corporation...

My sony kp-57ws500 turns on and works fine for about 15 min but then fades to blue then goes all blue. i took the back off and when it starts to fade to blue the green tube and red tube fade off. what...

These sets had problems with bad picture tubes that cause this exact problem, but there is something you can try that may help you get some more use out of the set.

1.) You need to remove the entire plastic piece below the front of the screen. You most likely will find 3 screws on either side in back that you have to remove.

2.) The grill will not come out easy, pull from one side and then when it starts to come loose from the other side(there are several plastic pegs that hold it in.) Then from the bottom pull out( most of these sets have square plastic tabs at the top that tuck in.)

3.) With the grill removed locate the inspection plate behind it (it usually has 6 screws.) You will have to tilt the grill to the left and on its side as several cables are connected to it--they are held in place with trash bag like ties that you can release to get some room.

4.) With the inspection plate removed you will see a fairly small (about 3 inch square) BLACK PLASTIC BLOCK WITH SIX CONTROLS-usually they are marked with whiteout so someone can tell if they have been adjusted.

5.) You need to look very close at the block with a flashlight----usually the top three controls are FOCUS--don't touch those.
The lower three are usually marked Screen and if you look very close you will see b, g, r(blue green red)

6.)Usually the GREEN will be in the middle.

7.) Once you locate the BLUE control have the set on and turn it down--if the set is shutting down you may have only a few seconds to try to turn it down---usually to the left with the Screen control.

8.) Best way to do this if the set is on is on a video input clip_image001.gif with nothing connected--you turn the blue down until the set stays on and then very slowly turn it up until you see a slightly blue screen with or without diagonal trace lines----turn it down slowly until the blue screen and trace lines just disappear.

Let me know if you get it to work--Like I said if it is shutting down you may have to slowly turn the screen down a few times to get it to stay on.

If this works you may only be buying some time and if it is the tube sooner or later it may return with the same problem.

If this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Need to clean lenses and do manual focus/alignment of guns on a VS-5055. How do I get access to them and adjust? Thank you.

the lenses are accessable by removing lower back of unit, clean them with a damp paper towel-wipe them off with a dry one.put back back on unit.
screen/focas controls are in front of unit.remove speaker grill remove black cover using phillips will see 2 sets of row is row is screen, green, blue.turn each focas control slowly to get the clearest picture for each color.screen controls are touchy(if you turn then too high unit will shut off)if the black and white picture was good i would not adjust screen controls.if it was bad turn blue and green screens down all the way.picture is now red turn green up until it turns yellow then turn blue up until it turns white

Lines on the screen

Are they thin, white lines running east to west? If so, they are called retrace lines and indicate that the screen settings for the picture tubes is set too high or there may be a mal-function of the CRT driver circuitry. Try adjusting the screen controls which are located behind the front grill of the TV behind an access panel. Once you remove the grill and access panel, you'll see a small control assembly the has two sets of controls. Three for adjusting the red, green, and blue focus, the other, the red, blue, and green screen controls. To adjust correctly, put the TV on an unused input(dark, blank picture) and adjust until there are no visable retrace lines or color in the image.

Lamp issues

No its a tube and not a bulb. If thew line is green then theres an issue with the red and blue as the green is stationary on most sets unless thers a green centering ? Its a componet on the convergence board thats bad or going bad but if you replace any components on the board most likly your gonna need to do a convergence alighnment I would let a pro handle this repair unless your an experineced repair tech Good Luck
