Sounds like the blower motor needs replaced...... Although if its a matter of no heat then you can change the heating element inside the dryer fairly easily

My Rheem Criterion II gas furnace makes metal slapping noise when the blower comes on. It is not the blower or the motor.

Is there noise when the inducer motor comes on? The small motor that comes on first. It sucks the co out of the combustion chamber. It comes on first. Then the burner lights then the blower comes on. And the noise continues while it's running and doesn't stop till the blower stops? Is that correct? But it's not the blower wheel? Could it be out of balance and hitting the blower shroud?

Blower motor resistor

The blower motor is located under the passenger side of the dash. there should be power on the dark green wire at the blower motor. If there is no power check the 40 amp blower fuse and the blower relay. If there is power than ground the light green with white wire with the blower motor plugged in. If the blower does not come on than the blower is bad. If the blower comes on than you have a ground issue. The system is ground side controlled which means the switch provides ground. If the blower does not work on high I would suspect the ground wire is burnt on the backside of the switch since high speed bypasses the resistor.

The AO code came up when I tried to start the heater today. What does that mean?

Is the blower coming on? If not, i would start with the blower. You would need to check for voltage going into the blower. If you do, and blower is not coming on, then the blower is bad. IF the blower is on, then check the tubing coming to/from the blower for breaks or disconnected. Also, may be a bad blower vacuum switch. You can jump this after a call for heat has been established to see if it fires. You should only attempt this if the blower is working.

I have a 2000 sportage. The heater fan does not

It may be the blower motor, or it may be the blower resistor. Check for power at the blower motor. If power present with system on and blower has good ground, motor bad. If no power check blower resistor in air box prior to blower motor. If power on input side but nothing coming out to blower change resistor.
