Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have an old Samsung CRT TV model TXM3296HFX. Picture still looks great. But I wish I could expand the image to fill the whole screen. There's about an inch on both sides that appear are not getting used. Is there a way to stretch or adjust the picture all the way to the edges?

It sounds that the output voltage comes out from the SMPS is lesser than normal. Check it. If you wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Time slide, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. It's totally watchable and I think most would not notice. Truth is, I just got this unit (for free-amazing) and I don't know how it performed prior. I wonder if it's also possible that it came this way from factory. I'm not technical enough to check that voltage. Was hoping there was some dial that could be uncovered that a simpleton could turn!

Hi Sasi, well your post did inspire me to dig more. So I located the serivce mode screen! After looking at those settings and taking a closer look, it looks like the screen is normal. When the TV is off, the material that makes up the screen which is gray in color, also has the same visible black "margin". Thanks so much for reaching out. The way to get to the service screen for anyone looking up this type of unit is: Power Off>Mute>1 8 2> Power On

you need a green CRT thats whay you have the white kind of concave lines with the green screen. You can try adjusting the green screen control but you need anew CRT ( tube) the speaker cover has two plastic plugs that get removed on the lower edge os the grille which covers the two screws that hold the grille on. If you need more assistancr or where to get a green CRT let me know as I have a link that has some green and red Tubes for your model.

Full picture not in screen

Sounds as though you have a leaking Capacitor in the horizontal section. The problem capacitor is likey to be orage in color and rated at 2kv or higher. Located next to the High Voltage transformer ( Flyback transformer ). Be very cautious if you are changing this, or any part yourself as the picture tube can charge high voltage ( up to 35,000 volts ) for a long period of time. Always discharge the picture tube first before servicing a set.
Replace the capacitor with a like part with the same or higher voltage rating and the same capacitance number ( mfd, pfc,or such ) as listed on the side of the part.

Hi: When you say small horizontal screen, ¿Do you mean picture does not fill the screen completely from top to button? ¿Do images display normally though they are smaller in size? ¿Is color and definition of signal OK? Please answer so I can have a better picture of the problem.

This mis probably a cold solder connection in the horizontal circuitry called the pincussion. Theres a couple of coils and resistors that overheat from time to time and the solder connections get loose. Not really for a handiman has this tv has hi vboltage inside even when turned off. Shouldnt cost an arm ans a leg to fix if the repair shop knows what they Are doing. Good Luck
