Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Kenmore model 11020842990 series 80. had a severely unbalanced load in the rinse cycle. opened lid, rearranged clothes, would not start up again. Removed clothes to dryer, luckily most of water had already drained. I did smell faint electrical hot smell. Now water will fill and agitate but when it gets to spin cycle it will not spin or drain. If I move timer dial past the start of rinse at several random spots nothing happens. I will check switch tonight but I suspect something more sinister.

When it went unbalanced the tub most likely broke the lid switch part
3949238.open the lid,on the right side of lid you'll see a strike,it goes into a hole and this is where the lid switch is,stick a screw driver into the hole,if you don't hear a clicking sound the switch is broke

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.

Almost sounds like a timer or timer motor problem.  Could also be a loose wiring harness around the timer.  When you said it when into spin, but the next day, did the timer move at all during the "break".  Usually, a lid switch will give off that "tell-tale" clicking sound when lifting the lid.  See if it makes this noise, but it really doesnt sound like a lid switch issue.  Really sounds like a dead spot, or spots, in the timer.  Let me know.  Jim

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 series won't agitate

You will need to check you water level switch. Sound like it is bad or has something clogging it. You can test it like this. Find the tube that runs from the back of the level switch down to the outer tub. Unplug it from the tub. Now turn machine on so that it will start to fill. Now blow pressure into the tube. If it does not cut the water off, you have a bad switch. I would think it's bad. I see them about 5 ir 6 times a week.
Please rate solution if helpful.

On the spin cycle, it makes a banging noice, rythmic, about 2 per second....only on the spin cycle... can you help???

The spin cycle is used to rid the water by centrifugal force. As the tub spins, the water iis forced out of the clothes. The banging noise comes from the weight of clothes being on one side making the load unbalanced. The machine will absorb some minor unbalancing. If it gets real loud & the machine starts dancing, shut the machine off by raising the lid, when tub stops, rearrange clothes.

Rinse cycle doesn't work

Your cold water valve is clogged. Most likely needs to be replaced or at least cleaned.

Kenmore washing machine model 110 wash cycle stops

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)

Kenmore washer series 80 will aitiate but not spin with load

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

Washer runs quietly steadily except during spin cycle, when it tries to walk out the door. Have leveled the machine, even strengthened and leveled the floor.

Does it always do this or does it only happen when the load is unbalanced? In other words once this starts to happen can you lift the lid and rearrange the clothes within to balance the load and try again.

Kenmore 80 Series - machine won't rinse or spin

Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.
