Question about Zanussi Washing Machines
Look at your new knob-do you have a new one-old knob should pull off with a fair amount of pressure-then just push new knob on-look for a flat spot in new knob and be sure to line that up with the shaft on machine-cheers Denny

"Can I replace it with a new knob or do I have to buy a new timer?"
It sounds like the knob is rounded out where it fits on the timer post, or It may just be loose. Pull the knob off and inspect it. If damaged, yes, you can buy another one.

if you pull on the knob it will come off it has a metal clip that is pretty snug on the stem but it will come off, you still have to take the cack cover plate off to get to the switch and do the actual replacement
