Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washer takes a long time to fill when using hot water...had the plumbing checked and there is no problem there. Wonder if there is some kind of restrictive valve or something to better control the hot water?

Try using cold to see if this is a washer problem or a valve problem. A work around could be to use cold for half fill them hot.

SOURCE: Washer constantly fills with hot water even when turned off.

Sounds like a bad mixing valve. To verify that it is the valve you need to turn off the washer when it is filling. If water keeps running, replace the valve, Cost is under $50. for most washers.

SOURCE: Roper washer: Slow fill on hot setting

You can really thank the government for this- your washer has a 75/25 split valve (75 cold 25 hot--- so warm is mostly cold) which they mandated for all standard top load machines. In 2010 they are banning manufacting of all standard top loaders. The thermistor is because your machine has a ATC (automatic temperature control) system. It has a computer which monitors water temp for better laundry care. You could possibly have a repairman (this wouldnt be covered under warrany) try to retrofit a older service valve in your machine.

SOURCE: LG WM2233HW washer plumbing rattle.

Hello Justin,
What you are hearing is what they refer to as "Water Hammer'.. and aside from the noise.. it probably won't do much damage however home improvement stores such as Home Deot and Lowes sell add on devices that are installed onto your supply lines to absorb the shock when water is cycled on and off... You'll need to tell them exactly what size pipe you have and ( depending on how familiar you are with plumbing) you may want to hire a plumber to install.. They may have a water hammer add on that fits onto the screw on water lines.. Hope this helps..

My new Roper washer ... when on the Hot wash setting ... only allows a little hot water in and a bunch of cold water in ... so you endup with a warm water wash ... is that normal ??? Why can't I get a...

Hi, when you use the hot water selector switch, it should only supply hot water. The hot water will fill more slower then cold, but you should not be getting any cold water what so ever. You say it is a new washer. You can try this. Try and slide the machine out enough to get to the supply hoses to where they connect to the washer inlet fittings. Unplug the washer. The hot water at the faucet should always be the left one. On the washer, they will be marked with a C and a H, cold, hot. Use a flash light to make sure they are in the right place. If they are, turn off both faucets. Now, remove the hot water hose where it is connected to washer. Hold it in the tub, and turn the water to this hose only on. See if the water gets really hot like it should. If not, shut off water, and do the same using the other hose. The reason is, sometimes the hoses may be switched, or the plumbing may be backward. See if the right faucet is putting out cold. If all seems to be correct, you have a problem with the water fill solenoid. If the machine is still under warranty, call your repair man. This is something you cannot take on your self. Checking the hoses like I asked may be your problem, but if not you will need to have it looked at or live with the way it is to save you $$$$. I wish you the best on this. You may need to use a pair of pliers to loosen the hoses also.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Won't fill with hot water

FIRST THING I WOULD CHECK ARE THE HOSES. TURN OFF THE HOSES AND REMOVE FROM WASHER ONE AT A TIME OPEN THE COLD INTO A BASIN TO FLUSH THE LINE OUT. DO THE SAME WITH THE HOT SIDE SEE WHAT KIND OF FLOW YOU ARE GETTING, IF THE FLOW IS NORMAL CHECK THE VALVES ON THE BACK OF WASHER THERE SHOULD BE SCREENS TO COLLECT THE DIRT FROM GETTING TO THE VALVES, IF ALL IS GOOD THE HOT WATER VALVE MAY BE HANGING UP OR NOT OPENING ALL THE WAY

Hot water runs even with the power off

strange...however, I think there is something stuck in the valve keeping it open.  If you can't fix it replace the valve assembly.

Hot Water won't fill

I like to put the hose over in the tub and run some water just to eliminate plumbing problems from that point back. Then, I check the inside of the water valve where the hose connects which you have done. If all this is ok the only thing left is to replace the water valve. I have had some success taking the water valve apart and cleaning it out. About 2 out of 10 will start working but most require replacing.

Hot water doesn't work

Disconnect the hot water hose from the washer, put the hose over in the washer and run some water to make sure you don't have a plumbing problem. Look inside the valve where the water connects to the washer, there should be a screen that may need cleaning.

If everything looks and works good to this point then you will need a meter to see if power is getting to the water valve and to check the hot water solenoid on the water valve. No power to the water valve, then replace the water select switch. Bad solenoid, then replace the water valve.

Whirlpool LHW0050PQ - Water wont empty or fill

This sounds like a plumbing problem. Lets see if we can isolate it. Turn the valves off behind the washer and remove them from the washer. Remove the washer drain hose from the stand pipe. Stuff one of the hoses into the now vacant drain line and turn the water on. Then do the other hose. Any noise? Now reconnect the fill hoses to the washer and reinstall the drain hose to its' place. Turn on the water valves at the wall, set the washer to a cold/cold cycle and start it up. Listen for noise. Now shut the machine off and set it for a hot/cold cycle and turn it on. Listen for noise. If you get no noise now, it's all good. If you're getting noise from just your hot water, your water heater is set too high and you have steam propagating in your plumbing. Your washer water valves (where the hoses connect to your machine) will only do this if you have low water pressure coming from the wall. Still, it'll be a plumbing problem.

My washer won't fill

If your washing machine was working just fine, and now it won't fill with water or spin, try this first. This is what was wrong with mine, a pressure hose had a clog in the line. First take off the front panal of washer, then connected to the load size dial (small to large load) there will be a clear plastic tube. This tube had what just looked like a stain in it, but in fact it was pluged up and was the whole problem. If the washer already thinks it's full of water, it's not gonna fill or spin..........
