Try puffing graphite into the timer. Graphite can be found by any key cutting location.

Can a defrost timer " stick"/

If it is a mechanical defrost timer, then yes, it can stick.

See that pinkish thing in the photo below? It's a shaft that you can manually rotate if the defrost time is stuck.

See if you can manually rotate the timer and get it to kick the compressor on.

Dualit toaster sticking timer

This a common problem for all dualit toasters after some years since the timer is also a power electric contactor and the cotntact are sticking. Their is not any solution and you need to replace the timer with new one. You can buy a new one from ebay which the prices are very good and we have also one link how to reach the elements which will help you reach also the timer.

I have a GE Timer Cat. No. 58280 and the paper or stick on dial with the settings has disappeared. Is there a dial that I could print and re-stick on to my timer? Thank you!

I think I found a solution: this appears to be a single-outlet version of GE 06655 Light-Sensitive 8-Hour Dual-Outlet Timer. I have tried matching the dial settings from the online image and it seems to work. There are seven settings on the timer switch. Set the pointer of the rotary switch dial so the ridge clicks into place with one end pointing precisely at the triangular switch position indicator. This is the Off position. Turn the dial one click clockwise, this is the Always On position. Then comes the 2-Hour setting, meaning it comes on at dusk and turns off after two hours. Then come the 4-hour, 6-hour and 8-hour settings. Finally, the Dusk-till-Dawn setting.

I can't find the pins that the instructions refer to.

Woods timers:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html

1) You posted question under Woods 59383 which has segments located around edge of dial.
These segments are pulled up to set OFF times.
Segments are left in down position for ON times.

2) Other Woods timers have tiny pins that stick up on the dial.
Pins are located on part of dial that rotates.
Get your glasses.
Run your finger across the dial and you can feel tiny metal pins that stick up.
Dial has 48 pins. Each represents 1/2 hour.
Use fingernail to move pins outward from center of dial.
Pins out = timer ON
Pins inward = timer OFF

Below are 2 EXAMPLES of Woods timer showing pins and segments

Sticks on all cycles

if it sticks on all areas of the timer you may be missing the timer motor voltage to operate the timer, otherwise the timer itself is bad

STICKS on cycle, wash, etc. If manually moved

Do you mean the timer or control dial sticks. If so then it may be the timer mechanism itself.

Make sure that when you are skipping a turn on the timer that the machine is actually performing that particular task of the cycle. For example if the timer gets stuck before the drain cycle, and you manually skip forward to it, that it actually drains the water out.

If so then it is most likely a worn timer mechanism which sticks.

No recalls are listed on the Whirlpool/ Roper web site on ant timers. Try www.repairclinic.com , If your timer isn't the problem, you can send the part back for a refund.
