Do you get any Sound? How about trying a different set of speakers or head phones...do you get sound now? if you do then.. more then likey you blew your new speakers... wouldn't be hard if you had a child playing on your computer that left them turned way up too long... otherwise I would check all the connections including the one on the back of the computer ...If your not getting sound at all no matter what device you try then odds are a windows update installed a different set of drivers for your audio card (I've seen it happen a few times) so you could try to roll back the drivers in the device manager and see if that helps

SOURCE: my computer doesn't detect my speakers, I do have windows 8

Do you have the AC adapter plugged into a live outlet and have you turned on the speakers? Make sure that the speaker signal cable is plugged into the correct port on your computer (the lime green port on a desktop). Check that the correct audio driver is installed for your computer. (With Windows 8, use the Device Manager to check. From the Start Screen, type in Device Manager. Click on Settings and then select Device Manager. Alternatively, Windows key+C on the desktop. Select Settings and then Control Panel. You can find the Device Manager under System and Security or Hardware and Sound.) Scroll down to the Audio devices. Expand the section and look for a red triangle with an X or a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. Try updating the driver (check with the manufacturer of your computer for the latest driver). Even if you don't see the error triangle, try reinstalling the latest driver.

Next check if the speakers work on another computer. If they don't work, the audio cable may be damaged. Try a different set of computer speakers on your computer.
If other known good speakers do not work and the correct audio drivers have been installed, check the audio output devices. Go to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound page (as described above). Choose Manage Audio Devices. Check if the HDMI port is set as the default audio device. Disable it for a bit (right click on the device) . Sometimes when a new video card is installed, the audio device defaults to this port. This messes up the drivers for the regular audio.) Reboot the computer and then try reinstalling the audio driver. Reboot again.
If it still fails, there is probably something wrong with the audio device hardware. If you are using an add-on sound card, try disabling it and using the motherboard audio device. (A number of add-on sound cards didn't work well with Win7 or Win8. The on-board audio drivers worked better.) If you are using the motherboard audio on a desktop, try an add-on sound card. (Check for Windows 8 compatibility (drivers) before selecting any card.)

I hope this helps.

Will Harman Kardon HK 206 speakers work with Windows 8

I just purchased a Dell XPS 8500 with Windows 8 and decided to keep using my old Harmon Kardon HK 206 speakers because I'm quite satisfied with these speakers. When I hooked them to my new PC, Windows 8 recognized them right away. The speakers work great on my new PC. Try going to the Control Panel and see if your speakers were recognized. (On my PC they're referred to as "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio). That's due to the default drivers in Windows 8. As long as you see speakers in the control panel, you should be OK. In that case you should check your connections. If you don't see speakers in the control panel, go back one screen and select add a device and let Windows 8 scan for any device that it hadn't recognized before.

The hard disk on my gateway dx4820-05h crashed and had to replace it with a new one. I don't have a recovery disk so I tried to install windows 8 but i'm unsuccessful. During the install process,...

You will need to buy another licensed copy of windows 8 if you didn't burn the recovery disks while the system was operational.

You might also be able to buy the recovery disks from gateway them-self. Contact gateway customer support for more information. Make sure you have the make and model number for your machine and be SURE they have the correct information or you might get a disk for another system.

Why wont my computer recognize my speakers? My computer is gateway with windows vista on it. In my device manager it has a caution sign but the logitech website says the speakers dont need drivers. Please...

Those speakers are meant to just plug into a sound card or onboard sound device or any sound device that has headphone jacks e.g. iPod. They don't provide feedback to the PC, so there is absolutely no need for drivers, which is why you don't see them in device manager. Think of them as a glorified pair of headphones.

Hello, zx4300 black screen, fan is working, led light works test another hard drive still will not work, very confused please help

I'm beginning to think that the gateway zx4300 all in one has a major defect problem with the motherboard. Mine is 8 months old and the screen went black on me a couple of times then totally went out. I took it back to best buy (still under warranty) they sent it to Kentucky (gateway) 3 weeks later got it back and it's starting to do it again. I'm not happy and am pretty ********** at this point. I use my computer for business and this has been a major inconvenience and money loser. I want to have gateway trade this for a different computer. 8 months old for this to happen is unacceptable.

I had a Gateway Computer that crashed. (10 year old ) and I want to use the same speakers for my new HP Windows 7 computer. What sound cards do I need to download? Or how do I find out?

The new HP Windows 7 computer most likely already has a sound card built in. On the back of your computer you should find at least three 1/8" plugs for sound related use. If there is just three, one is for line-in, one is for line out (speaker connection), and the other is for the microphone. You would connect your old speakers to the line-out connection (usually a pale green color). If you have more connections, then you have a sound card that supports surround sound. You'll have to refer to the computer's documentation to determine which output to connect to.
