Microwave door latch

One corner of the microwave door doesn't quite meet when it's closed, just a small gap but you can press it in and hear it touching. Brand new appliance. is it a problem?

Being a brand new unit it should work properly. If it did not blow a fuse then its ok but it will only get worse with time. Have it exchanged as soon as possible.

SOURCE: Door latches to microwave broken

I assume you're talking about the spring that keeps tension on the door hooks (latch heads, as they're called by Sharp). When you shut the door, the "hooks" are held down by this spring to actuate the door switches. To fix this, you'll have to separate the door panels. You can download the service manual from my Web site. There's a loop built into the latch head assembly and sometimes the loop breaks. If so, you can drill a tiny hold in it and reattach the spring there. There may also be a loop on the innner door panel to hold the spring. That one can break, too. If it's broken, you'll have to find a way to secure the spring to the panel. If the panel material is thick enough, a tiny screw eye could be inserted, then epoxied overnight to secure it. I've attached a diagram to this message that should help you. If that doesn't help you, I have the service manual for the R1600-series microwaves on my Web site at: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1610.pdf Repost if you need more help.

The latch head (the assembly with the hook-like parts sticking out) also has a spring which secures it to the inner door panel. The inner door panel or latch head has a broken spring mount. To repair this, the door panels will have to be separated. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find a helpful exploded view diagram of this model at http://www3.sears.com You can order parts for Sharp models from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com.

SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We also have this full service manual at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdf

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

theres a small plastic hook inside the door which holds a tension spring this will have snapped off stopping the latch from entering the lock its actually quite easy to fix the inner plastic frame can be unclipped with a small flat blade screwdriver exposing the hook mechanism and the spring will be lying in the bottom of the door frame you can reconnect it to the metal inner frame it stretches the spring a little more but it will never snap again ive done this loads of times with no probs otherwise you will have to replace the outer door to reinstate the broken hook.

Blows fuse when you open door

Be-safe, Un-plug your microwave oven ,

Open the microwave cover ,
Close and open door few times to check the door latch(es) and switch(es).
Door switch assembly may has one or more micro switches.( Most switches are black or grey and about 1,25 in long X 3/4 in wide X 5/6 in thick with two or three wire connections).
Making sure door latch close and open these micro-switches.

You can hear the switch "clicks" when small switch pin or lever is pressed.

Sometime these door micro-switches pin or lever get stuck or broken.

You can take couple pictures before remove wires or micro switches

You can buy these switches for about 3-7 dollars online. Some web sites have video showing how to check them. (Using Volt-Ohm meter)

How to fix a door latch of Samsung SMH9207ST microwave?

The small tab on the latch broke so the spring was loose. Took my drill and drilled a small hole in the main body, ran a small wire tie thru it and hooked the spring to the wire tie. Works great and more durable than the orginal dinky hook.

My microwave wont turn on. the power works, clock, timer and all electrical is working, it just wont turn on.

Most likely you have an interlock microswitch problem or a latch problem. as you just open or just close the door VERY slowly listen for 3 distinct clicks one for each of the 3 interlocks. Two you will hear as you press the door open button and the last one you will hear as the door just opens or closes. If you do NOT have 3 clicks you have a bad micro-switch.
The micro-switches you can purchase on line here:

Owners manual: (Provided only for telphone contacts in first 2 pages.)

I think you just have a simple micro-switch problem. However... if the latch assembly that holds the switch is cracked or broken it will have to be replaced. I have seen the plastic latch assembly fail causing the switch not to work properly.

The top right corner of my panasonic nn-h275 otr microwave door leaves a approx. 3cm gap when closed. Fixable? Dangerous?

If the door is warped cheaper to replace the whole oven, the 3cm gap is a hazard because you have dangerous radiation leakage, the levels are exceeding safety standards and should be removed from service immediately.

Possible door adjustment problem

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

Or you can return it for replacement.

I would not suggest trying to fix this yourself since it's under warranty.

MY PANASONIC MICROWAVE OVEN HAS POWDER BUT IT DOES NOT HEAT.

I'm assuming the clock is on and controls appear to work, but won't start cooking. Quite often the latch on the door can slip out of place, so the safety interlocks do not clear even with the door closed. The latch can be accessed by removing the cover of the microwave, and should be easily visible. The latch assembly can be adjusted by loosening the screws and pushing the unit upwards. Re-tighten screws on new position. A very small adjustment is usually enough. Do not undertake repair work if you are not up to it.:::Spiceweasel.au
