Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer drum tries to start but won't

The motor tries to spin the drum but just makes a buzzing noise. Occasionally I can spin it by hand with an empty drum and it will spin up. It seems like a started capacitor is burned out.

The start switch is probably bad on the motor but most dryers you have to buy the whole motor

My Kenmore Dryer, Mdl #86681800 won't start when hot

The most likely reason it that the electric motor is failing; the thermal protector on the motor is resetting after the motor cools down. The buzzing is due to a locked rotor in the motor while it is overheated.

Another much less likely possibility is that there is excessive drag on the drum causing the motor to overheat because it is working too hard spinning the drum. Excess drag is due to worn rollers, etc.

Try rotating the drum in the CORRECT direction by hand and see if it seems really hard to rotate. You can try this on a friend or relatives machine to see how much drag is normal.

To determine which way is the correct rotation, just start the dryer, open the door and look fast! To test, just turn it in the same direction as it was rotating before it stopped.

Ld lg3788w gas dryer drum won't turn

not a good model number, most likely you have a broken belt as long as it starts, heats but the drum doesn't spin,if you get a buzzing sound and it doesn't start you could have something stuck in the blower wheel, the motor is jammed or the motor is bad,you can open the door, push the door switch in,spin the drum with your other hand and have someone push the start button,if it starts you have a bad motor.

My dryer makes a buzzing noise when i try to turn it on, but it won't turn on at all. What could the issue be?

The motors centrifugal switch may be stuck. Try having someone start it while pressing in the door switch while you rotate the drum with your hand by grabbing one of the drum vanes. I don't know which direction your drum rotates. Try both. This may start the drum turning on its own and resetting the switch.

When i go to start my dryer model # aeq6700fso all it does is make a buzzing sound no heat and drum does not turn? i checked the belt is fine and motor spins freely by hand

If the motor is hummming or buzzzing it most likly the motor or a bad wire conection to the motor.

you can try to turn the drum by hand and retry to start the machine.. if this does work, you have a bad spot on the motor and if it does not and you can verify the noise is coming from the motor then the motor is most likley bad.

the noise is coming from the motor,if you can spin the drum by hand and it moves freely you have a bad motor and need to change it out, next time send model number and the brand name of dryer,if it doesn't spin, the belt could be jammed up or something stuck in the blower wheel, let me know how you make out

the buzzing noise is the motor trying to start try a test leave the door open with one hand press the door switch with other hand spin the drum at the same time have someone press the start button if your dryer starts then and when it is cool it is the motor replace the motor

Won't come on, just makes a buzzing noise when you turn on knob..

If it makes just a buzzing noise, Your motor has probably gone bad. If you open the doot and hold the door switch in then have someone hit the start button, Then spin the drum by hand and it may start. This tells you that the start windings in the motor are going bad. If this does not work then your motor has totally gone bad.

Whirlpool condenser dryer not working. Power coming in to machine but that is about it.

hiya
does the machine make a buzzing noise? or heat up?

if it makes a buzzing noise and heats up it will more than likely be the motor surpressor, all this does is gives the motor a kick start to set it off tumbling with a wet load. theres a quick way you can check if it is this at fault, make sure the drum is empty and set timer as you would normally, open the door and spin the drum as hard as you can then shut the door quickly (whilst drum is still turning if you can), the dryer should now run normally until it stops again.

hope this helps
