Your video card and/or drivers are probably bad - this is not good if you don't have a warranty or service contract for the laptop. It's possible it could be heat related - I would make sure the unit is cleaned and dusted off and provide for ventilation to dissipate heat buildup. Heat is a system killer, especially video cards.
